Gateway Milling is a feed mill venture jointly owned by Westpork and Thompson and Redwood – two leading agribusinesses in Western Australia. Our strategic direction is to ensure delivery of locally sourced, nutritionally balanced feed that supports healthy animal growth and strengthens our integrated supply chain.
Following an internal movement, we have an opportunity available for an experienced Procurement Manager to join our management team, coordinating all grain and raw material purchasing for Gateway.
Responsibilities
* Continue to develop and harness a grain procurement program focused on direct relationships with local grain growers
* Build, develop, execute and monitor the supply strategic plan in relation to volumes, specifications, quality, assured supply, risk, and regional supply to suit orders, stock management, and minimization of freight costs
* Work closely, managing and building relationships with strategic supply partners
* Plan, manage, and coordinate all activities related to the sourcing and procurement of all raw materials needed to meet the customer orders
* Plan and coordinate logistics to ensure efficient operations
* Accurately record and manage all grower (grain) and raw material contracts
* Actively seek better buy opportunities (wheat seconds, hulls) and out‐of‐spec commodity items to assist lowering Gateway and its core toll processing clients average raw material cost
* Monitor and manage inventory levels in line with operational goals and scheduling
* Collaborate with the production, scheduling and finance teams to streamline operations, resolve supplier issues and maintain adequate inventory levels
* Oversee the receival of raw materials, ensuring adherence to quality and safety compliance and report discrepancies to the Mill Manager
* Conduct regular quality checks on commodities and raw materials, ensuring compliance with predetermined standards
* Frequent visits to sites within southern and northern areas of Western Australia
Qualifications
* Experience in a similar role within the grain and/or milling industries
* Solid experience dealing, building and maintaining relationships with 3rd party growers
* Business planning skills and execution capabilities on procuring products to meet ongoing manufacturing needs
* Strong communicator with exceptional interpersonal skills
* Demonstrated analytical, problem solving and negotiation skills
* A self‐starter who is a team player; pro‐active, persuasive, and agile
* Tertiary qualifications in agriculture, horticulture, or related discipline – preferred but not required
* Strong IT literacy and the ability to quickly adapt to new systems
