General Manager, Marketing – Media Merchants
Media Merchants is looking for an experienced, strategic General Manager of Marketing to lead the agency's Sydney team and play a pivotal role in driving outstanding work for our clients. About the role
The General Manager of Marketing leads the MM's Sydney Team, setting the overall strategy for integrated campaigns across all pillars and channels, including print, digital, TV, in-store and content. You will act as a key strategic partner to our clients, translating their business objectives into cohesive, results-driven marketing plans that make full use of the agency's full-service offering.
Key responsibilities
* Provide clear strategic leadership across the marketing team, developing and refining campaign strategies and calendars that align with client goals and retail seasons.
* Oversee and coach all members of the marketing team, building capability in areas such as campaign planning, pitching and stakeholder management.
* Drive collaboration across internal agency departments, including Creative, Media, Performance, Digital and Production, to ensure integrated, effective campaign delivery.
* Act as a senior liaison for major suppliers and client stakeholders, negotiating high-level co-marketing agreements, securing funding or exclusive opportunities, and maintaining strong, long-term partnerships.
* Lead the strategic relationship with senior agency leaders and client contacts, setting expectations, addressing high-level issues and championing new ideas, including innovative media and performance strategies.
* Own marketing budgets (including supplier co-op contributions), ensuring effective allocation of funds across channels, monitoring ROI and providing clear performance reporting to senior stakeholders.

* Extensive senior marketing leadership experience within an agency or complex multi-stakeholder environment, with a strong track record in integrated, omni-channel campaigns.
* Proven ability to lead and inspire high-performing teams, mentor talent and foster a collaborative, supportive culture.
* Strong relationship-building and negotiation skills, with comfort engaging at executive level with clients and suppliers.
* Commercial acumen and confidence using data and insight to inform strategy, optimise campaigns and demonstrate ROI.
* A hands-on, solutions-focused approach and the ability to balance big-picture thinking with day-to-day delivery in a fast-paced environment.
