What does "Experienced" really mean to us?

If you've been hands‑on before—working across civil sites, keeping things safe, and moving confidently around machinery—that practical know‑how is something we value.

RMA Soils: Built on Integrity, Backed by Results, Proudly Local

We are RMA Soils & Geotechnical, a Queensland-based company delivering geological and geotechnical engineering, consultancy and soil testing services across Queensland and Northern New South Wales.

For 10 years, we've worked on diverse projects, from small residential builds to large‑scale developments, servicing land developers, civil contractors, engineering consultancies and local governments. Our reputation is built on quality, precision and trust, and we take pride in doing things the right way.

At RMA, we back our work and our people. We're known for our honest communication, accurate results and for being the kind of team clients want on their sites and technicians want to work with.

Our vision is clear: "Inspiring our people to deliver the best engineering outcomes to all of our clients, every time."

And we live it, through real development opportunities, regular one‑on‑ones, and a culture that prioritises people first. Whether it's your career or your next project, we're here to get it right and enjoy the process along the way.

Join a Team That Actually Backs You

RMA Soils is looking for full‑time Soil Technicians (Trainee and Experienced) based in Toowoomba, QLD.

This is a hands‑on, field‑based role where you'll be trusted to work with autonomy and supported every step of the way. Whether you're already working as a technician or transitioning from a trade background, RMA offers a career path that's structured, supportive and built to help you succeed.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

* Conducting field‑based soil testing for construction projects in line with NATA standards and regulations
* Using testing tools and equipment, including nuclear density gauges, accurately in the field
* Collecting and recording data in real time
* Communicating with clients to assess their testing needs and provide accurate results
* Mentoring and supporting junior team members (for experienced hires)
* Following safety and quality protocols and contributing to a culture of continuous improvement

What your ramp‑up looks like:

For Trainee candidates, you'll be paired with a buddy and follow a structured six‑month training plan, building core skills like density gauge use, sampling and testing procedures — all in a clear, step‑by‑step framework.

Experienced candidates will complete a short orientation and quickly move to autonomy. Within one to two weeks, you'll meet clients, get up to speed with our tools and processes, and start working independently in the field.

You'll have regular one‑on‑one check‑ins with your manager, offering ongoing feedback and support, a rare level of development in this industry and a big part of what sets RMA apart.

More Grit Than Ego? You'll Fit Right In

At RMA, we know great soil technicians aren't all cut from the same cloth, some come through formal pathways, others from the trades. What matters most is your mindset: being hands‑on, switched‑on and ready to grow.

If you're an experienced technician, you'll already have a solid foundation in soil testing and a drive to take ownership in the field. You'll bring:

* A Certificate III in Laboratory Skills or Construction Material Testing
* A current QLD Nuclear Density Gauge Licence
* At least 2 years' experience in field‑based soil testing
* Strong working knowledge of Australian and DTMR standards
* Confidence in mentoring and supporting junior techs, and a commitment to doing things the right way

If you're stepping in as a trainee, you might be coming from another trade — plumbing, electrical, HVAC, diesel fitting, construction, or simply love working outdoors and learning on the job. You'll bring:

* A genuine interest in technical or trade work
* A hands‑on attitude and willingness to learn
* Physical fitness and comfort working outdoors
* A valid driver's licence and the ability to travel locally for fieldwork

Across all levels, we're looking for people who are:

* Adaptable, coachable and open to feedback
* Honest, accurate and proud to do things right
* Great communicators who build easy rapport with clients and teammates
* Looking to build a career, not just do a job

A Launchpad, Not Just a Landing

When you join RMA, you're not just clocking in, you're stepping into a role where your effort is recognised, your growth is supported and your lifestyle matters.

We offer starting rates of $28–$30 per hour for Trainees, depending on your transferable skills. As you build capability and experience, you can progress to an Experienced Technician rate of $30–$40 per hour, with opportunities to reach that level faster than in many other trades .

Beyond that, there's clear scope to grow your career further — with progression pathways into roles such as Field Supervisor and Annex Lab Manager .

But the benefits go well beyond the payslip:

* Structured onboarding and up to six months of tailored training for junior hires
* Regular one‑on‑one development sessions and constructive feedback
* Clear career progression, including leadership pathways for those ready to step up
* Friday socials and quarterly team days
* Genuine work–life balance and a team that respects your time
* A close‑knit crew that looks out for each other and takes pride in doing things right

We're proud to offer an environment where people stick around, not because they have to, but because they want to.
