Join a major telecommunications program focused on strengthening fibre resilience across regional and metropolitan networks. We are looking for an experienced Fibre Planner on a contract basis who can lead detailed network reviews, identify diversity risks, and guide the creation of accurate, high-quality design documentation. This role suits someone who enjoys solving complex network challenges, working with detailed fibre records, and partnering with engineering, planning and field teams to deliver robust outcomes. This is an initial contract role with a view to extensions and / or permanent placement. What you’ll be doing • Conduct end-to-end fibre route analysis, identifying single points of failure and recommending diversity improvements • Review and refine fibre routes, KMLs, schematics and mapping to ensure accuracy and compliance • Prepare planning documentation, costings, build summaries and financial estimates for remediation and new builds • Create and maintain engineering orders within defined governance processes • Analyse POIs and current fibre paths to confirm geographically diverse routes, including CAN fibre and NBN transitions • Support senior fibre engineers with planning tasks across multiple large-scale network uplift programs • Assess the viability of diverse fibre routes for mobile and fixed infrastructure using mapping tools and KML design • Contribute to planning and creation of Helix orders, engineering packs and design artefacts • Liaise with Network Planning, Design, Field Operations and stakeholder groups to ensure alignment and delivery • Work across inventory tools, mapping applications and platforms used for diversity assessment and network design What you bring • 5 to 10 years of experience in fibre network planning, design or transmission engineering • Strong understanding of fibre technologies, transmission principles and end-to-end network design • Ability to prepare clear, accurate technical documentation and interpret diverse fibre datasets • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines • Experience working on complex network builds, upgrades or resilience initiatives • Skilled in problem solving, critical thinking and adapting to changing project conditions • Collaborative approach, able to work closely with internal teams, technical stakeholders and external partners • Familiarity with large-scale carrier environments, workflow systems and planning tools • Proven ability to deliver high-quality work with a resilient, professional mindset Why this role? • Meaningful work strengthening a major carrier’s regional and metropolitan fibre network • Complex, interesting projects requiring real technical depth • Opportunity to influence network resilience and help shape future design standards • Work closely with senior planners and national engineering teams If you are an experienced fibre planner who thrives in detailed design work and wants to contribute to major network resilience initiatives, we’d love to hear from you.
