The Veteran Services Centre at the Gympie RSL are seeking a dedicated and experienced Compensation Advocate to join our Veteran Services Centre team.
This is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of veterans and their families by assisting them to access the compensation entitlements and support they have earned through service.
Working within a supportive and community-focused environment, you will provide professional compensation advocacy services to current and former ADF members and their dependants across a range of DVA compensation matters.
About the Role
As a Compensation Advocate, you will work directly with veterans and their families to assist with the preparation, submission, and management of compensation claims under DVA legislation, predominantly MRCA (Vets Act).
You will play a key role in:
* supporting clients through often complex compensation processes,
* gathering and reviewing medical and service evidence,
* preparing high-quality claims and supporting documentation,
* liaising with DVA and external stakeholders,
* and helping veterans achieve positive compensation outcomes.
This role requires a compassionate and professional advocate who can work confidently with sensitive client matters while maintaining high standards of legislative compliance and record keeping.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist clients with DVA compensation claims and related processes.
* Prepare and lodge compensation documentation and correspondence.
* Gather and assess supporting evidence including medical reports and service documentation.
* Maintain accurate client records and case notes.
* Liaise with DVA, medical providers, ESOs, and other agencies.
* Maintain current knowledge of compensation legislation, policy, and Statements of Principles.
* Provide advocacy services in accordance with ATDP standards and organisational procedures.
* Work collaboratively with the Veteran Services Centre team and Gympie RSL Sub Branch stakeholders.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
* Demonstrated experience in DVA compensation advocacy.
* Sound knowledge of MRCA (Vets Act) legislation.
* Experience preparing and managing DVA compensation claims.
* Strong written communication and administrative skills.
* Ability to manage sensitive client matters with empathy and professionalism.
* Strong organisational and time management skills.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and electronic case management systems.
* Other or higher ATDP qualifications.
* Experience with Permanent Impairment (PI), incapacity, and review matters.
* Previous experience within an ESO or veteran support environment.
* Current Defence community knowledge and networks.
