About the opportunityThe Assistant in Nursing (AIN) must exhibit responsibility and accountability for tasks performed. They also work under the supervision and direction of the Registered Nurse (RN) who acts in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) Decision-making framework and Standards for practice, and Australian Standard (AS) 5369:2023 Reprocessing of reusable medical devices and other devices in health and non-health related facilities.The unitThe Townsville University Hospital (TUH) Central Sterilising Department (CSD) is responsible for the decontamination and sterilisation of Reusable Medical Devices utilised in Operating Theatres, Oral Health Services, various wards and hospital departments, as well as for external clients. The Townsville University Hospital CSD offers assistance to other CSDs within the Townsville Hospital and Health Service (HHS).Role requirementsShift Workers: Appointees will be required to work all shifts in accordance with the unit roster.Highly Desirable: Applicants who meet one of the following criteria are considered highly desirable:Hold a relevant Certificate III in Aged Care, Health Service Assistant or equivalent, orSuccessful completion of the first semester full-time equivalent Diploma of Nursing course including all theoretical and clinical competencies, orSuccessful completion of the first year full-time equivalent undergraduate Bachelor of Nursing course including all theoretical and clinical competencies.This is a VPD risk role.
