Job Description
The role can be based in Canberra, Brisbane, or Melbourne. As a Software Engineer at NCS Australia, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining robust backend web services within complex, multi‐layered architectures. This role is built for an engineer who thrives on technical variety; one day you'll be deep in the .NET ecosystem (C#, ASP.NET, WPF, WCF) building mission‐critical services, and the next you'll be crafting intuitive frontend experiences using Angular and modern JavaScript frameworks. You will deliver solutions with a high degree of autonomy, taking full ownership of the end‐to‐end lifecycle—from initial design through to deployment and production monitoring in large‐scale IT projects.
At the heart of our delivery model is a commitment to "Quality by Design." You will champion Test‐Driven Development (TDD) and Behaviour‐Driven Development (BDD), ensuring that code quality and maintainability are baked in from the first line. You will design and implement sophisticated automated test suites using industry‐standard tools such as Selenium, Appium, and SpecFlow, and manage continuous automated testing through the Microsoft stack (TFS, MSTest). Your work will meet the highest standards of performance, security, and accessibility before it ever reaches a user.
Collaboration is central to how we work. You will participate actively in all Scrum ceremonies, working closely with Product Owners and Scrum Masters to refine user stories and define clear acceptance criteria. You will uphold our "Definition of Done" through rigorous peer reviews and documentation. As a senior member of the engineering community, you will support a culture of continuous improvement, sharing your knowledge and mentoring others to elevate both development and testing capabilities across the team.
Qualifications
* .NET Specialist: Extensive experience in C#, ASP.NET, WPF, and WCF, with a deep understanding of building and maintaining web services in enterprise environments.
* Full Stack & Mobile Capability: Proficiency in Angular and modern JavaScript frameworks; experience with Xamarin (C#) for mobile development is a distinct advantage.
* Automation Architect: Skilled in designing test frameworks using Selenium, Appium, SpecFlow, or Cucumber, and integrating them into TFS/Azure DevOps pipelines.
* Architectural Mindset: Application of enterprise architecture principles and reference models to ensure code aligns with broader business and technical strategies.
* Data & Tooling Proficient: Practical experience with SQL, XML, and package management tools such as NuGet and npm.
* Agile Advocate: Experienced in Scrum, comfortable with estimation, and passionate about refining user stories to ensure maximum testability.
* Quality Obsessed: Promotes TDD/BDD as a core philosophy to detect defects early and keep technical debt low.
* Collaborative Mentor: Enjoys helping others grow, regularly sharing insights on development best practices and evolving test automation frameworks.
* Willing and able to obtain an AGSV Security clearance.
