At Port Macquarie-Hastings Council, every employee plays a role in helping our community thrive. We are seeking a Water & Sewer Compliance Coordinator to join our Utilities Planning & Design Section within the Community Utilities Group.
In this role, you will lead and coordinate compliance activities across Council's water and sewer networks, ensuring the protection of public health, the environment, and the ongoing integrity of essential water and wastewater systems. You will manage the Water and Sewer Compliance Officer team and deliver a risk‐based compliance program focused primarily on Trade Waste regulation, recycled water connections, and sewer network compliance.
This role is ideal for an experienced compliance professional or regulatory leader with strong technical knowledge of water and sewer systems, and the ability to lead a team in a complex operational environment.
To Be Successful In This Position You Will Have
* Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline (e.g., water operations, plumbing, environmental science, regulatory compliance) or substantial relevant industry experience
* Demonstrated experience working in a regulatory or compliance environment, including investigations and enforcement action
* Proven ability to lead, develop and manage a team in an operational or compliance setting
* Strong understanding of water and sewer systems, including trade waste and wastewater processes (desirable)
* Well‐developed communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including managing sensitive and challenging interactions
* Strong analytical, problem‐solving and decision‐making skills with sound judgement
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience using compliance, asset or records management systems
* Current Class C Driver Licence
On a Typical Day You Will
* Lead Council's Trade Waste compliance program, including coordinating agreements, approvals and inspection activities
* Oversee compliance inspections for recycled water connections and sewer network systems
* Manage and support the Compliance Officer team to deliver scheduled and reactive compliance programs
* Conduct and coordinate investigations into breaches, incidents and environmental compliance issues
* Issue notices and undertake enforcement action under relevant legislation and Council policies
* Provide technical advice to internal and external stakeholders on water, sewer and trade waste compliance matters
* Maintain and update compliance policies, procedures and registers in line with legislation and best practice
* Prioritise and coordinate team workloads using a risk‐based approach to compliance delivery
* Prepare reports on compliance activities, outcomes and performance indicators
* Respond to incidents and ensure timely investigation, resolution and reporting
* Contribute to continuous improvement of compliance systems, processes and practices
Remuneration And Benefits
Employment type: Permanent, full‐time role (35 hours per week plus flex‐time)
Salary: Starting from $97,130.47 to $108,719.03 per year depending on skills and experience plus 12% super
This role also qualifies for a leaseback vehicle or allowance
