Drive Road Safety Across the Territory
As a Transport Inspector, you will play a key role in vehicle safety, compliance, and community protection.
The Role
1. Conduct inspections at Vehicle Inspection Facilities and in the field to ensure vehicles are safe, roadworthy, and compliant with legislation.
2. Participate in compliance and enforcement activities on roads and at weighbridges.
3. Assess oversize/over mass permit applications and issue permits with appropriate conditions.
4. Prepare documentation and reports and provide evidence in court when required.
5. Deliver high levels of customer service to the public, industry, and agencies.
6. Maintain compliance with Work Health and Safety legislation.
About This Opportunity
* A relevant mechanical trade or tertiary qualification awarded by an Australian institution, or equivalent; OR substantial experience in a technical field closely related to the duties of the vacancy.
* Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage complaints and disputes constructively.
* Strong administrative skills, able to process data, compile reports, and interpret legislation.
* Team player with problem-solving skills and the ability to manage your own workload.
* Recent experience in mechanical and technical fields of motor vehicle standards and safety.
* Physically fit and able to perform inspection and enforcement duties indoors and outdoors.
* Willingness to work shifts, overtime, and travel to remote locations with overnight stays.
* Current NT Driver's licence (or ability to obtain).
* Knowledge of NT road transport legislation and the heavy haulage industry.
