Department of Education WA – Kalgoorlie WA
This 6‐month fixed‐term, full‐time position will commence Term 3, 2026 with possible extension (12 months) and/or permanency.
EASTERN GOLDFIELDS EDUCATION SUPPORT CENTRE (EGESC) provides specialised education for high school students with mild, moderate, or severe intellectual disabilities, as well as students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) who have exceptionally high educational needs. Many of our students also present with additional complex conditions that require support.
EGESC is co‐located with Kalgoorlie‐Boulder Community High School (KBCHS) in South Kalgoorlie. While sharing a site, EGESC operates as a distinct Education Support Centre, with its own staff, leadership, and tailored programmes focused on student engagement, WA curriculum, functional skill development, and post‐school pathways.
The Role
EGESC is seeking a passionate and dedicated primary school experienced educator who is innovative, highly motivated, and committed to working collaboratively as part of a dynamic and supportive team. The ideal applicant would have strong communication and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to build positive, trusting relationships with students, staff, families, and the broader school community.
The successful applicant should provide clear direction and leadership to Education Assistants and actively engage in ongoing professional learning to enhance practice.
Key Responsibilities
The successful applicant should deliver high‐quality, purposeful, and engaging learning programmes with a focus on developing students' functional literacy, numeracy, communication, and independence skills. Learning programmes will be individualised to meet the diverse needs of students, including those with ASD and complex learning profiles.
The successful applicant would ideally use a range of student data and assessment tools to inform planning, instruction, and reporting processes. A key component of the role is the collaborative development and review of Individualised Education Plans (IEPs), aligned with the Western Australian Curriculum and/or Abilities Based Learning and Education Support (ABLESWA) progression levels.
Ideal Attributes
We are seeking a primary school educator with a genuine commitment to supporting students with disabilities, that utilises reflective practice and responsiveness to individual needs. The successful applicant should ideally be flexible and adaptable, capable of delivering engagement programmes for students at educational risk, including those facing attendance challenges. They should be able to implement whole‐class, small group and individualised learning programmes as needed. Experience with Positive Behaviour Teaching, co- and self‐regulation strategies and behaviour intervention planning would be highly regarded.
Familiarity with Early Childhood Education, trauma‐informed practices, particularly the Berry Street Education Model (BSEM), and a dedication to ongoing professional development are highly valued.
