Join the North West Hospital Maternity Unit and play a vital role supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and families through pregnancy, birth and beyond. This role combines clinical care, cultural knowledge and advocacy to improve maternity outcomes across the region.
About The Role
Based within the North West Hospital Maternity Unit in Mount Isa, you will support women across antenatal clinics, inpatient care, birthing services and postnatal follow-up, while strengthening engagement, participation and continuity of care for First Nations families.
* Provide clinical support and assessments within scope of practice, including antenatal clinics, observations, screening, education and care coordination.
* Deliver culturally safe care, advocacy and navigation support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and families throughout their maternity journey.
* Work collaboratively with midwifery, nursery and community services to improve attendance, reduce missed appointments and support safe discharge planning.
Working with us
* For 1 year you will receive an isolation bonus of AUD$3,605. If you stay for 2 years you will receive AUD$10,815, and for your 3rd year (and every year thereafter) you will receive AUD$7,210 pro‐rata for part‐time employees.
* In your downtime, we will provide 2 return airfares per annum (full‐time employees, including spouse/dependents) or 1 return airfare per annum (part‐time employees) to the nearest east coast provincial city in conjunction with your recreation leave.
Requirements
* To perform this role, it is essential that the person who holds the position be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. This is a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti‐Discrimination Act 1991 that applicants be Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders.
* Appointment to this position requires proof of a Certificate IV in Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care and a Diploma in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health.
* Applicants who do not hold the mandatory qualification requirements, but believe they have the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the role as outlined and will commit to completing the required qualification(s) within an agreed timeframe may be appointed at the "No Qualification level (NQ)" for a fixed term, subject to engaging and participating in a learning agreement to obtain the required qualification(s) with essential level support under HR Policy G10 Study and Research Assistance Scheme (SARAS) or the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workforce Education Scheme.
* Potential applicants are advised that the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian Act 2000 requires Queensland Health to seek a 'working with children' check from the Commission for Children and Young People and the Child Guardian prior to appointment to this position.
* Valid C class motor vehicle licence.
* Pre‐employment screening will be conducted for the successful applicant, including criminal history checks.
* This is a VPD risk role and may require evidence of vaccination or immunity to hepatitis A/B, measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, pertussis and tuberculosis.
* A period of probation may apply.
