Offer description

Step into a career that delivers purpose, stability, and true work‐life balance.

About the opportunity

We're recruiting Custody Officers for Broome and Kununurra on behalf of our client, an established government services contractor that has delivered this work for more than seven years. It's a stable, long‐term operation supporting the WA justice system, offering a real career path rather than a stopgap.

Who we're looking for

We're recruiting locally. Candidates should already be based in Broome or Kununurra, or be moving there at their own arrangement. The role is for people who already love the Kimberley or are ready to call it home.

We're looking for people with the right attitude and capability – calm under pressure, respectful, reliable, and willing to learn. Formal experience helps, but attitude and capability matter more. Full training is provided.

The package
* $29.50 per hour once qualified ( $27.35 per hour during training )
* $10,189 per year regional allowance, paid fortnightly
* Overtime likely – the operation runs 24/7, so additional hours are generally available
* Six weeks of fully paid training in Perth, with flights and accommodation covered
* Cert III in Correctional Services / Custodial Management, fully funded
* High Security Permit from the WA Department of Justice on completion
The role

Custody Officers supervise detainees in court holding cells, escort them to medical appointments, transport them between courts and facilities, and provide security at courts and hospitals. The work requires staying calm, treating people with respect, and following procedure when things get hard.

What we need from you
* Based in Broome or Kununurra (or moving there at your own arrangement)
* Australian citizen or permanent resident
* Willing to commit to a minimum of 12 months
* Willing to spend six weeks training in Perth
* Able to pass Fit2Work, National Police Check, Department of Justice Integrity Assessment, and a pre‐employment medical including drug & alcohol screening
* A calm head, respect for people, and the ability to work as part of a team
Backgrounds we'd love to see

Experience in youth work, community programs, security, healthcare, customer‐facing roles, mentoring or any role that has earned trust in tough situations is genuinely valuable. Life experience and the ability to support people in difficult moments matters.

A note on the work

Many of the people in custody you'll work with are Aboriginal. We're looking for people who bring genuine respect, an open mind, and the willingness to do this work with care.

EEO Statement

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are strongly encouraged to apply.
