About the Role
We are seeking an experienced QA Team Lead to lead our Quality Assurance team within our Australian payments fintech organisation, with a strong focus on modern, AI-enabled QA practices.
This is a senior leadership role suited to a technically strong QA professional who can balance hands‐on quality ownership, team leadership, and strategic adoption of AI-assisted testing techniques across a complex payments product portfolio.
You will lead a team of QA Analysts working closely with Software Development, Product, and external scheme partners. The role spans payment terminals, mobile, desktop, server, and web applications, with particular emphasis on EMV certification, compliance, and production quality, while progressively improving efficiency through automation and AI-assisted QA tooling.
This role is in‐office based in Melbourne with no work‐from‐home arrangement.
Key Responsibilities QA Leadership & Strategy
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of QA Analysts and Senior QA professionals
Manage QA workloads and tasks allocated to QA team members
Define and own the QA strategy, incorporating AI‐assisted testing and automation where appropriate
Establish standards for manual, automated, and AI‐supported testing practices
Drive continuous improvement in test coverage, speed, reliability, and defect detection
AI‐Enabled Quality Assurance
Identify and implement AI‐assisted QA capabilities, such as:
* AI‐supported test generation and maintenance
* Intelligent defect triage and failure analysis
* Flaky test detection and test optimisation
Ensure AI tools are used responsibly and transparently, with human review and governance
Work with engineering leadership to integrate AI‐assisted QA into CI/CD pipelines
Evaluate emerging QA tools and technologies and assess their suitability for regulated payments systems
Payments & Certification
Own Level 3 payment scheme certification testing across terminals and solutions
Act as the senior QA escalation point for scheme certification and compliance issues
Liaise with issuers, acquirers, schemes, and third‐party partners to resolve technical issues
Ensure ongoing compliance with EMV standards, scheme mandates, AS2805, and ISO8583
Quality Governance & Delivery
Embed QA throughout the SDLC, from requirements through to release and post‐deployment
Review and approve test strategies, test plans, and release readiness
Drive quality metrics, reporting, and risk visibility to internal stakeholders
Oversee post‐deployment monitoring, root‐cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives
Technical & Operational Support
Provide senior‐level technical guidance for investigation of EMV chip and contactless issues
Support complex production incidents where QA expertise is required
Oversee the creation and maintenance of internal and customer‐facing QA documentation
Skills & Experience
To be successful in this role, you will have:
* 7+ years' experience in software testing and quality assurance
* Proven experience leading or QA teams
* A minimum of three years of experience in leading or managing QA teams
* Strong background in payments, EMV, and terminal certification testing
* Solid understanding of AS2805 and ISO8583
* Experience with EMV contact and contactless scheme certification
* Practical experience with test automation and modern QA tooling
* Exposure to or hands‐on experience with AI‐assisted testing tools or workflows
* Advanced proficiency with AI‐assisted testing tools or workflows is required
* Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and leadership skills
Highly Regarded
It would be advantageous to have experience with:
* AI‐assisted coding or QA tools (e.g., AI‐enabled IDEs, Cursor, Playwright, test generation tools)
* CI/CD pipelines and DevOps‐aligned testing practices
* SmartBear TestComplete or similar automation platforms
* SQL and data‐driven testing
* Business analysis or requirements validation
* Quality assurance in regulated, high‐availability systems
