Project Manager

Location: NSW

Purpose of the Role

* The Project Manager is responsible for the successful commencement, planning, scheduling, execution, monitoring, controlling and closure of a project through the application of knowledge, skills, tools and other management techniques to meet project requirements safely and correctly.

Major Responsibilities

* Leading project planning sessions.
* Coordinating staff and internal resources.
* Managing project progress and adapting work as required.
* Ensuring projects meet deadlines.
* Managing relationships with clients and stakeholders.
* Designing and signing off on contracts.
* Overseeing all incoming and outgoing project documentation.
* Participating in tender processes including design, submission and review.
* Designing risk mitigation plans.
* Conducting project reviews and creating detailed reports for executive staff.
* Optimising and improving processes and overall approach where necessary.
* Securing growth opportunities and initiating new projects.
* Managing large and diverse teams.

Specific Tasks

Safety

Project Managers must take reasonable care for their own health and safety and ensure their actions do not adversely affect the health and safety of others. Responsibilities include:

* Ensuring adherence to company WHS policies, procedures, rules and standards.
* Implementing and maintaining WHS, Environmental Management and Industrial Relations Management Systems, including Project/Site Plans, from tender to completion.
* Participating in on‐site safety meetings and managing the close‐out of safety audit findings in a timely manner.
* Reporting risks, incidents, WMS monitoring and legislative changes at IMS Administrator meetings.
* Maintaining knowledge of WHS issues and modelling safe work behaviours.

Environmental

* Preparing Project/Site Specific Environmental Management Plans.
* Ensuring compliance with environmental legislation, regulations and licensing.
* Assessing subcontractors' and suppliers' compliance with environmental requirements.
* Promoting environmentally sound work practices.
* Fulfilling responsibilities outlined in the Site‐Specific Environmental Management Plan.

Industrial Relations

* Managing all industrial relations requirements within the company and fostering a positive culture.
* Ensuring delivery of projects without disruption due to industrial relations matters.
* Complying with legislation, workplace relations laws and national codes.
* Administering awards and enterprise agreements and assessing subcontractor compliance with industrial relations systems.

Management

* Directing all employees or teams under control, including construction staff, administrative staff and site resources.
* Adhering to the company Code of Ethics and business plan strategies.
* Maintaining strong client and consultant relationships throughout the project life cycle.
* Representing the company at various functions and promoting client relationships.

Project Delivery – Tenders

* Assisting with tender preparation including programs, submissions, subcontractor selection and pricing.
* Attending tender negotiation and hand‐over meetings.
* Ensuring construction documentation and contracts are in order prior to execution.

Quality, Program and Budget

* Managing multiple construction projects.
* Implementing company Quality Systems, policies and procedures.
* Preparing submissions, reports and correspondence related to construction activities and WHS Incident/Injury Management.
* Training and supervising construction staff and subcontractors.
* Managing budgets, finances, procurement and contract administration, including claims, payment schedules and variations.
* Lead meetings and prepare regular project reports.
* Proactively managing foreseen project risks and mitigating as necessary.

Project Handover and Defects Liability Period

* Managing defect inspections and rectifications to achieve defect‐free completion.
* Coordinating with Business Development for project closure activities.
* Preparing certifications, as‐built and operations manuals for client submission.
* Managing retention claims and defect liability period maintenance.

Administration

* Complying with all company Quality Systems, policies and procedures.
* Participating in Business Process Improvement meetings and providing initiatives.
* Communicating challenges and knowledge with other Project Managers.

Other Duties

* Following IMS policies and procedures.
* Working safely without risk to self or others.
* Seeking help when uncertain about HSE or Quality requirements.
* Following emergency and evacuation procedures.
* Reporting hazards or environmental issues to manager.

Personal Specification

Qualifications

* Degree in Building or Engineering or equivalent.
* White card (or general construction induction card).

Experience

* 5+ years as a Project Manager.
* Experience on high‐end mid‐tier residential developments over $10m.
* Strong programming and risk management experience on large projects.

Knowledge

* Construction management processes.
* High proficiency with construction software such as Jobpac, Aconex, Buildtools.
* Strong MS Office skills including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Project.
* Familiarity with company SOPs.
* Understanding of WHS and environmental regulations.
* Knowledge of WSIB and insurance provisions.
* Understanding of Industrial Relations standards and company policies.
* Ability to read and explain building plans.
