Part‐Time Court Officer – 39th District Court

Supervised by: 39th District Court Judge
Status: Part‐time up to 1,500 hours per year at $26.50 per hour
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
* Provide courtroom and courthouse security.
* Coordinate and facilitate Zoom hearings.
* Check in attorneys and in‐person parties appearing before the Court.
* Interact daily with court participants and the public in a professional manner.
* Use observation skills to identify and diffuse potentially dangerous situations before they occur.
* Enforce courthouse rules and maintain courtroom order.
* Use verbal commands and physical force, when necessary, to restrain disruptive prisoners or members of the public.
* Respond immediately to incidents including assaults, disturbances, or other situations threatening Court security.
* Supervise and monitor in‐custody defendants in the courtroom (do not transport inmates).
* Remain vigilant to prisoner activity and detect unusual behavior to ensure safety of employees, defendants, and the public.
* Bring and return files between clerical areas, courtrooms, and judicial chambers.
* Prepare disposition forms for the jail.
* Coordinate Zoom hearings with the jail.
* Respond to emergencies within the court building and provide assistance as needed.
* Document incidents in written form and submit reports to the Court Administrator.
* Assist with the care, control, and supervision of jurors assigned to the Court.
Qualifications
* Current CCW permit required.
* Must be able to obtain firearm, CPR, AED & First Aid certification.
* Must possess basic computer skills and familiarity with Zoom.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
* Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful situations.
* Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality.
* Preferred: prior experience in law enforcement, corrections, military, or court security.
Special Requirements
* Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
* Ability to physically respond to emergencies and security situations.
* Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
