Join the NSW Department of Communities and Justice as an Aboriginal Intensive Bail Support Officer, a role focused on providing frontline voluntary bail support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth in Tamworth.
Employment Details
- Contract Type: Temporary, Full‑time up to 4 years
- Location: Tamworth
- Salary: $107,131 – $116,969 per annum (grade 6/7), plus superannuation and annual leave loading
What You’ll Do
- Build strong relationships with Aboriginal communities and key stakeholders to deliver frontline services.
- Provide intensive support to young people on bail who are not under court‑ordered supervision.
- Apply a strengths‑based approach to engage and support voluntary participants.
- Deliver targeted case management interventions that address individual risks and needs.
- Collaborate with Youth Justice staff, government agencies and NGOs to connect clients with services aligned to their Bail Support Plans and monitor progress.
- Engage families, communities and young people to foster community development initiatives.
- Liaise with police and legal services, providing briefings, reports and formal communications.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure data integrity across information systems.
- Equip young people and families with the tools, information and support needed to make positive life changes.
- Remain responsive to change and comply with departmental policies, procedures and best practice guidelines.
What We’re Looking For
- Relevant tertiary qualifications (diploma or higher) in social work, welfare, psychology, criminology, education or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Current NSW Working with Children Clearance.
- Current NSW Driver’s Licence.
- Experience travelling larger distances in regional and rural settings.
- Evidence of a strengths‑based, culturally competent practice approach.

This position is open to Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people only.
