Most mid-sized Australian organisations have purchased Microsoft Copilot licences. Few have the architecture to turn them into production value. This is the role that allows you to resolve that.
About the organisation
Sydney-based organisation with around 1,000 employees, an established Microsoft 365 footprint, and executive sponsorship behind their AI investment. They have the licences, the use cases and the budget. What they do not have is the architect who can make it production-grade. That is what this appointment is.
About the role
You will be the first dedicated AI Solutions Architect in the business, reporting to senior technology leadership. Your mandate is to own the reference architecture for Microsoft Copilot and Azure OpenAI, and to turn a collection of licences and pilots into working patterns the engineering team can build against.
This is a mid-market environment. You will need to operate from whiteboard to working prototype, not only from slide to sign-off. You set the guardrails, own the integration patterns, and advise the business on what to build, what to buy, and what to wait on.
Key responsibilities
* Design and own the end-to-end reference architecture for Microsoft Copilot, Copilot Studio and Azure OpenAI across the business
* Lead RAG, agent and data-grounding implementations from proof-of-concept to production
* Define integration patterns into M365, SharePoint, Teams, Dynamics 365, Power Platform and line-of-business applications
* Set security and governance guardrails in partnership with security, compliance and data stakeholders, including identity and data-access controls via Entra and Purview
* Advise business and technology leaders on build versus buy, vendor risk, and what the platform should not yet attempt
* Establish the standards, patterns and documentation the engineering team builds against as the platform scales
About you
* Strong solutions or enterprise architecture background with hands-on Azure production experience
* Hands-on with the Microsoft AI stack: Copilot, Copilot Studio, Azure OpenAI Service, and familiarity with Microsoft Fabric or Purview
* Comfortable integrating AI capabilities into M365, Dynamics 365, SharePoint or ServiceNow in a real production context
* Security-aware throughout: you think about identity, data grounding and governance from the first whiteboard session, not as an afterthought
* At ease in a mid-market setting: you can balance architectural rigour with a delivery pace that a 1,000-person business actually needs
* AZ-305 and AI-102 are well regarded; additional Microsoft AI certifications noted
What's on offer
Own the AI architecture for a Microsoft-committed Sydney organisation at the moment it moves from licences to production. Real influence over the reference architecture, the integration patterns, and the guardrails the business builds against for years. Range: $180,000 to $230,000 plus super, hybrid working from Sydney.
