Kennedys is seeking a lawyer to join our Property, Energy and Construction (PEC) practice in Sydney, working closely with Partner Mairead Cusack and collaborating with PEC partners across our broader Australian offices.
This is a dispute and litigation-focused role offering exposure to technically complex, high-value insurance matters across the property, energy and construction sectors, with access to Kennedys' integrated international network.
The Team
Kennedys' PEC practice assists insurers and reinsurers in relation to significant, high-profile claims and coverage disputes across property, energy and construction lines. Our Sydney team works on matters of genuine complexity; from large-scale infrastructure disputes to building design and construction claims — with cross-border reach and strong market recognition.
The Work
* First party property, energy and construction insurance claims
* Contract works, contractors all risk and industrial special risks matters
* Business interruption, delay in start-up and advance loss of profits claims
* Coverage advice and defence of high-value claims
* Subrogated recoveries on behalf of insurers
Key Responsibilities
* Running and managing a caseload of PEC insurance disputes with appropriate supervision
* Drafting advice, pleadings and correspondence to a high standard
* Assisting on complex, high-value matters from inception to resolution
* Working collaboratively with PEC partners and teams across offices
About You
* Experience in PEC insurance litigation from a reputable private practice team — we welcome applications at all levels from candidates with relevant experience
* Defendant-side experience from a reputable private practice team
* Candidates with a background in public liability (property damage) claims are also encouraged to apply
* Strong technical and drafting skillsProactive, organised and capable of managing a varied caseload
* Interest in building a long-term career in a specialist, globally connected practice
