Overview
We're looking for a skilled and passionate Principal Warfare Officer Instructor to join our Navigation and Synthetic Warfare Training team at HMAS Watson. This is a rare opportunity to deliver high-quality warfare mastery training that supports the Royal Australian Navy's operational capability.
Responsibilities
In this role, you'll work under the direction of the PWO Lead Instructor and Officers in Charge within the Commander Surface Warfare Training (CSWT) remit. You'll use your advanced warfare experience to deliver simulator-based and classroom training, maintain courseware, and mentor future warfare leaders. You'll also contribute to the ongoing success of the Bridge and Combat System faculties during high-tempo periods. As a Principal Warfare Officer Instructor in the Navigation and Synthetic Warfare Training team, you'll make a positive impact by:
* Delivering Surface Warfare Officer Advanced (Common and Specialisation) and Warfare Mastery Courses in line with approved documentation
* Providing simulator-based, classroom and remedial instruction to Navy trainees
* Maintaining technical mastery in RAN warfare policy, tactics and procedures
* Supporting trainee performance reviews, debriefs and development feedback
* Assisting with courseware preparation and training system improvements
* Collaborating with the wider CSWT team to ensure training excellence
Qualifications
You could be a great fit if you have:
* An advanced warfare qualification (PWO or WTI) awarded by one of the following Navies:
* Royal Australian Navy
* United States Navy (IAMD, ASW or Strike specialist)
* Royal New Zealand Navy
* A minimum of 24 months consolidation experience in an eligible warfare role
* A Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (or willingness to obtain within 12 months)
* Be able to achieve and maintain a defence security clearance of NV1 or higher
* Experience delivering training in a Defence or Navy environment
* Strong communication and engagement skills with trainees and stakeholders
* A collaborative and professional approach to supporting high-performance learning
