Offer description

Diabetes SA has been at the heart of South Australia's diabetes community for nearly 70 years. As the state's peak not-for-profit body, we exist to improve the lives of South Australians living with, at risk of, or supporting someone with all types of diabetes — through advocacy, education, services and genuine community connection.

Our work spans NDSS administration across SA, diabetes education programs, member services, community health programs and retail operations, delivered by approximately 23 staff across an annual budget of around $3.5 million.

We are at a pivotal moment. Our strategic focus centres on financial sustainability, income diversification, ICT modernisation, workforce readiness and deeper relevance to our members. Our Reconciliation Action Plan is currently in development, reflecting our commitment to walking respectfully alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

Opportunity

We are seeking up to six Non‐Executive Directors to join our Board. These are voluntary, unremunerated positions for people who want to make a genuine difference — contributing expertise, networks and independent judgement to a Board committed to honest conversation, strong governance and meaningful impact.

* Location: Adelaide, SA — in-person meetings with hybrid options available
* Commitment: 10 monthly evening meetings + AGM + at least one sub‐committee + meeting preparation

Skills and Experience We Are Seeking
* Clinical / Allied Health — Registration or senior experience as a health professional, ideally with a diabetes, chronic disease, primary care, GP or allied health background
* Business Development — Experience developing revenue streams, corporate partnerships, fee‐for‐service models or service innovation in NFP, health or commercial contexts
* ICT & Cyber Security — Practical experience in ICT strategy, systems implementation, cyber security or digital transformation, particularly in sensitive data environments
* Legal — Qualifications or extensive experience in law, particularly NFP, health, employment, regulatory or contract law
* Finance — Professional accounting, financial management or audit experience; we are seeking a second finance voice to complement our Treasurer
* Philanthropy & Community — Connections and experience in philanthropy, community engagement or stakeholder relations to support our new Mission Advancement Committee
Who You Are
* Genuinely motivated by improving the lives of people living with diabetes
* Able to exercise independent judgement and manage conflicts of interest appropriately
* Collaborative, respectful and clear on the distinction between governance and operations
* Available to prepare thoroughly for meetings and engage actively between meetings
* Committed to inclusive governance and working respectfully with diverse communities
* Understanding of, or willing to develop, NFP governance responsibilities under the Associations Act and ACNC obligations
