Position Information
The Sydney Secondary College Leichhardt Campus is a co‐educational campus for Years 7–10. The role is to lead the support unit for students with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities and autism, providing inclusive, high‐quality education and behaviours support.
Responsibilities
* Lead and manage the support unit, including staff and student resources.
* Develop and implement effective behaviour support strategies for students with complex behaviours.
* Collaborate with parents, carers, and external agencies to support student wellbeing.
* Guide staff in adapting and planning curriculum and programs to meet diverse learning needs.
* Interpret and apply departmental policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with student welfare and safety standards.
* Oversee day‐to‐day operations of the support unit, maintaining a safe and inclusive learning environment.
Specific Selection Criteria
* Demonstrated expertise in managing and supporting students with complex and high‐level behaviours in a special education setting.
* Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills for engaging and collaborating with parents, carers, and external agencies.
* Ability to lead and guide staff in adapting and planning curriculum and programs to meet diverse learning needs.
* Proven capacity to interpret and apply departmental policies and procedures relevant to special education, with particular emphasis on compliance in student welfare, safety, and the operation of the support unit.
General Selection Criteria
* Successful teaching experience with a capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice.
* Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs.
* Educational leadership skills to build capacity and manage performance of individuals and teams.
* Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents.
* Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning.
* Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education is required. Applicants who do not hold full approval must commence the application process at the same time as applying for this role. All staff are required to be vaccinated as per the Department's vaccination requirements; proof of vaccination must be provided prior to appointment.
