About the role
The Payroll Adviser will be responsible for overseeing fortnightly payroll for 300+ employees, including superannuation and leave records in accordance with legislation. The successful incumbent will be the direct supervisor for the Payroll Services officer and will be involved in making recommendations to the Manager Financial Services, People and Culture Manager, and other managers on payroll application administration matters. The successful incumbent will be responsible for helping management interpret awards, agreements and legislation relating to the employment of staff, including the development of total remuneration packages.
About you
What you will need:
* Tertiary qualifications relevant to the role, such as payroll, accounting, business or human resources, with a strong grounding as a Payroll Officer in a Senior Position, or a combination of extensive experience and competence, sufficient to perform all duties of the position at this level.
* Exceptional interpersonal and written communication skills.
* Demonstrated time management skills including the ability use initiative and judgement to reach outcomes and to work unsupervised, so as to achieve objectives of the department/Council.
* Demonstrated effective analytical, problem solving and investigative skills.
* Demonstrated extensive experience in a complex payroll environment.
* Proven supervisory/management experience gained within a multi-disciplinary function.
* Highly developed communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills with the ability to deal with people on complex and sensitive issues.
* Advanced computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software, particularly with the use of Excel.
* Working with Children's check and a pre-employment Police check is essential.
* Experience with Authority payroll system or Employment Hero highly desirable.
* Experience in a local government environment will be highly regarded.
