Offer description

Overview

Nurix Therapeutics is a clinical stage biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery, development, and commercialization of targeted protein degradation medicines. Nurix aims to establish degrader-based treatments at the forefront of patient care, leveraging an AI-integrated discovery engine and ligase expertise to advance clinical programs.

Position Summary

This role is located at the interface of Nurix's DEL driven drug discovery engine and preclinical drug development platform. The strategic impact is the elucidation and communication of small molecule interactions with drug targets to provide mechanistic understanding and guide design of clinical drug candidates. As a member of the early discovery department, you will contribute to validation and characterization of novel chemical matter for our targeted protein degradation platform and participate in multiple small, agile teams of drug discovery veterans to achieve discovery and development milestones.

Key Responsibilities

* Design and execute end-to-end gene-to-structure workflows: construct design, protein engineering, experimental planning, and structure determination
* Determine high-resolution structures of protein–ligand and protein complexes using X-ray crystallography and cryo-EM
* Own all aspects of sample preparation, data collection, processing, model building, refinement, and documentation
* Translate structural findings into actionable insights for project teams, and present results to colleagues and senior leadership in written and oral formats
* Partner with computational chemistry and machine learning groups to drive rational drug design and enhance proprietary computational platforms
* Serve as a structural biology resource across the research organization, providing mechanistic rationale to support project decisions
* Maintain rigorous laboratory records and contribute to scientific reports, publications, and patent filings
* Help establish and continuously improve best practices, protocols, and SOPs within the structural biology group
* Build and maintain deep command of the structural mechanisms of protein ubiquitylation and degradation

Qualifications

Required:

* MS with 8 or more years of relevant experience or PhD in structural biology, biochemistry, biophysics, or a related field; 4+ years of hands-on academic or industry experience. Exceptional candidates at the entry level will also be considered.
* Demonstrated deep expertise in X-ray crystallography, cryo-EM, or both. Independent deployment of both technologies is strongly preferred
* Full proficiency in Phenix, Coot, CryoSPARC, RELION, PyMOL, and Chimera/ChimeraX
* Exceptional attention to detail, rigorous record keeping, and keen scientific curiosity
* Strong scientific communication skills with the ability to present complex structural data to diverse, cross-functional audiences
* Ability to work strategically, independently, and collaboratively in a fast-paced, matrix research environment

Preferred:

* Experience in drug discovery or biopharmaceutical setting is highly desirable
* Experience with protein degrader technologies
* Working experience with ubiquitin ligases, transcription factors, or membrane proteins
* Additional skills in SAXS, NMR, HDX-MS, machine learning, or computational structural biology

Fit with Nurix Culture and Values

Collaborative and team-oriented, eager to share expertise and learn from others. Solution-driven with a hands-on and resourceful approach. Adaptable and comfortable in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary environment. Committed to scientific excellence and the shared goals of the team.
