Overview
The Coordinator Local Laws contributes to the development of programs designed to reduce the risks associated with the discharge of Council's regulatory obligations. The role focuses on coordinating operations within the Local Laws programme, promoting continuous improvement to provide a high standard of community amenity, safety and customer service. It involves providing specialist advice, conducting investigations into complex or sensitive matters, preparing and presenting evidence for legal proceedings, and mentoring others while leading investigations.

Role and Responsibilities
* Coordinate operations in the Local Laws programme with a focus on continuous improvement to provide high standards of community amenity, safety and customer service.
* Provide specialist advice to other areas of Council, customers, and conduct investigations into complex and/or sensitive matters affecting Council.
* Prepare and present evidence for use in legal proceedings and provide recommendations and advice on enforcement matters, including mentoring others and leading investigations.
* Develop and implement programs designed to reduce the risks associated with the discharge of Council's regulatory obligations.
* Lead and contribute to investigations and enforcement projects as directed for other internal stakeholders.
* Lead and role model customer-focused behaviours and plan for customer implications before reacting.
* Deliver quality and timely reports including briefing notes and investigation reports; contribute to policy, procedure and business improvement strategies in line with legislative requirements.
* Liaise with stakeholders and colleagues regarding legal advice and preparation of relevant documents, with the ability to work autonomously.
* Prepare budget submissions for the branch for review by senior officers and Council.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Formal qualification in law enforcement or statutory compliance (or equivalent field) with a minimum of 5 years' experience in a regulatory services environment.
* Demonstrated leadership and management experience; ability to build productive relationships through effective communication.
* Proven ability to implement continuous improvement and customer service cultures within teams.
* Comprehensive knowledge and experience in leading investigations into breaches of legislation.
* Understanding of obtaining evidence, interviewing suspects/witnesses and preparing briefs of evidence for court; ability to provide timely and accurate advice to Legal Practitioners.
* Knowledge of relevant legislation with ability to interpret statutes, policies, regulations and guidelines relating to local government licensing and regulatory compliance in Queensland.
* High-level analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills; ability to negotiate outcomes and manage protracted issues with a customer-centric focus.
* Ability to provide authoritative written and verbal advice to management, supervisors and staff.
* Experience appearing in court and presenting evidence in a professional manner.
* Current Queensland C class driver's licence.
