MIGAS Apprentices & Trainees has partnered again with Bengalla Mining Company to recruit motivated and enthusiastic local candidates for its annual apprenticeship intake.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor at Bengalla Mining Company, you will be supported by qualified tradespeople over a four‐year apprenticeship, gaining hands‐on experience and valuable electrical skills within the mining industry.
Your key responsibilities will include electrical repairs, maintenance, fault finding, diagnostics, and component change‐outs across both field and workshop environments.
You will also assist with installing wiring, circuits and insulated cables, connecting switches and outlets, performing high‐voltage switching, and maintaining electrical systems, equipment, and process control infrastructure.
As part of the maintenance team, you will contribute to the safe, efficient and continuous operation of assets across a 24‐hour, 7‐day open‐cut mine site.
On successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will become a qualified Electrician and achieve a nationally recognised qualification, UEE Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician.
About You
We are looking for motivated candidates with strong problem‐solving skills and a genuine interest in building a long‐term career in the mining industry.
Applicants who hold a Certificate II pre‐vocational qualification in an electrical field, or who have relevant paid or volunteer experience, will be highly regarded.
To be successful, you will also need to demonstrate the following:
* Reside in the Upper Hunter Valley, NSW
* Hold a current driver licence or learner permit
* Have access to reliable transport to and from site
* Demonstrate strong mathematical aptitude and have completed a minimum of Year 10
* Be comfortable working at heights and in a physically demanding environment
* Be able to work independently and contribute positively to a team environment
* Take pride in the quality of your work
* Be reliable and available for full‐time working hours
* Demonstrate a genuine passion for the electrical trade
* Be committed to completing and passing all practical and theory‐based requirements of the apprenticeship
* Be able to pass a medical, drug and alcohol screening, and police check
About Bengalla Mining Company
Bengalla Mining Company has long been part of the Upper Hunter Valley and is committed to investing in the region by creating jobs and supporting the local community. It operates a single‐pit open‐cut mine using dragline, truck and excavator methods, with the site running 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
As a busy and highly productive operation, Bengalla requires a wide range of practical skills to help keep the mine running safely and efficiently.
All Bengalla Mining Company apprentices complete a six‐month Mining Skills Program at the Centre in conjunction with TAFE Hunter, developing valuable technical capability in areas such as welding, electrical and automotive, along with training in financial awareness, health and nutrition, personal fitness, communication skills and road safety awareness.
