About Us
The Queensland Fire Department (QFD) provides fire prevention, preparedness and response services to fire in the built and landscape environments, as well as scientific and specialist capabilities to Queensland communities. The QFD provides a multi-hazard emergency response, including road crash rescue, bushfire, hazardous material, technical and vertical rescue, severe weather incidents, remote and swiftwater rescue, and provides a number of functions supporting community safety outcomes.
Purpose of the role
Protect and serve the community by responding to fires and other emergencies in a professional and timely manner to minimise loss to life, property and the environment.
Improve the safety and emergency preparedness of the community by contributing to fire prevention and community education activities.
Entry requirements
Entry Levels For The Role Are:
Recruit Firefighter
External Firefighter (Standing Order SO-Q-BM-3.26)

Mandatory requirements
Before an applicant can be appointed as a Firefighter, they must provide evidence of or successfully complete the following:
Currently holds a valid Blue Card (from Blue Card Services), with attached evidence to support
Manual Medium Rigid (MR) driver’s licence as recognised by the Department of Transport and Main Roads
Current Apply First Aid Certificate
Current Advanced Resuscitation Certificate
Compliance with QFD medical and fitness standards
Criminal History Check
Clinical Psychometric Assessment
Your key accountabilities
Operations Management
Respond to fire, road crash rescue/entrapments, technical rescues, hazardous material and other emergency incidents as part of a fire crew.
Operate emergency response vehicles and equipment safely and effectively, including driving fire appliances and other emergency vehicles under varying conditions.
Provide first aid and resuscitation when required.
Maintain QFD equipment, resources and facilities to ensure operational readiness.
Undertake functions requiring practical application of skills and knowledge.
Perform operational duties within the five roles of Operations’ Management: research and information, risk reduction, readiness, response, recovery.
Community Safety Operations
Support community awareness in fire prevention through education programs and activities.
Assist with property inspections, emergency response planning, and evacuation procedures.
Communicate effectively within the workplace, with emergency personnel, and the community.
Professional Development
Maintain competencies through training and self-development.
Participate in tactical, operational, and technical functions to acquire and maintain skills.
Operations Business Management
Undertake administrative duties and maintain station records.
Contribute to a safe, healthy, and productive work environment, adhering to policies and legislation.
Capabilities
You will be assessed on leadership competencies including leading self, with a focus on strategic leadership, innovation, change management, decision-making, talent development, relationship building, accountability, and governance.
