The traditional SDLC - BAs working through requirements with business users, writing user stories, developers picking them off a backlog, agile ceremonies - is on its way out at Harry the Hirer. Our business users are already sitting in front of Claude, producing working prototypes themselves. We need a seasoned engineer-architect who can take those prototypes, understand the business outcome & operational context, design and integrate into our platform strategy and technology stack, and turn them into scalable, secure, production software that actually runs the company.
This is not a slide-deck architect role. This is a hands-on coding job as a Principal Engineer / Solutions Architect role for someone who writes code every day, owns the design end-to-end, and sees AI as a skills multiplier - not a threat.

Harry the Hirer is the company behind the infrastructure that makes Australia's most iconic events happen - the F1 Australian Grand Prix, the Australian Open, and the Melbourne Cup and many more. With over 700 people and a portfolio spanning marquees, flooring, AV, furniture, catering equipment, custom fit-outs and event logistics, we are the operational backbone of the events that put Australia on the global map. We also do exhibitions, private & corporate events and touring/productions.
We are now in an ambitious technology transformation, led by a CTO with a bold vision: a modernised ERP platform built on micro-frontends, modern .NET APIs, event-driven services on Azure, insights and AI driven business processes and AI-assisted platform build from prototypes to production. We are not bolting AI onto a legacy SDLC - we are redesigning the way software is delivered at Harry the Hirer.
The Opportunity
You will sit at the intersection of business, architecture and code - partnering directly with the other alike delivery driven engineers, the engineering leads, business SMEs and executives to expedite the modernisation program across the whole ERP estate.
You will
* Own end-to-end design and delivery of features & subsystems across the modernising ERP platform - Angular micro-frontends, .NET APIs, Azure event-driven services
* Work directly with SMEs, operations leaders and executives - interrogating their Claude-generated prototypes, framing the real problem, and translating it into a robust architecture
* Use Claude / Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor or likewise as your daily craft - generating, reviewing, refactoring and shipping production code at multiples of traditional velocity
* Set the technical direction across multi-team engagements - micro-frontend boundaries, API contracts, event-driven patterns on Azure (Service Bus, Event Grid, APIM, Functions), cloud-first guardrails
* Define new ways of working - what replaces the backlog, the standup, the user story when prompts and prototypes become the spec
* Mentor or co-invent with the wider engineering group on what \"good\" looks like when AI is in the loop - prompt discipline, evals, code review, ownership and accountability
* Take ownership of the business outcome, not just the commit, the deployment or the ticket count
You will not
* Wait for a written backlog. The prototype, the conversations and the expected outcome are your spec.
* Hide behind a process. Your collaboration skills drive the design, planning and code ownership. The opportunity to define the new SDLC processes.
* Stop being hands-on. This is a senior coding role with architectural authority - not a job for slideware.
What You Bring
* 10+ years of solid hands-on commercial coding experience - and you are still writing production code this week
* Proven solution architecture track record on multi-team programs - micro-frontends, APIs, eventing, cloud-first design patterns
* Deep expertise in Angular/React (modern, micro-frontend ready) and .NET (C#, .NET 8+, ASP.NET Web APIs, EF Core, DDD, Event-driven, GraphQL)
* Demonstrable consulting and facilitation skills - you can workshop with a warehouse supervisor, a CFO and a junior dev in the same hour and leave each one clearer than you found them
* Fluent in AI-assisted development - Claude / Claude Code AND GitHub Copilot / Cursor / Windsurf - comfortable with agentic workflows, sub-agents and MCP-style tooling, not just chat
* Comfortable working without a traditional Agile backlog - able to define new working agreements with the business when the prototype IS the spec
* ERP, logistics or core business platform modernisation experience highly regarded
* Full-time working rights in Australia (citizens, permanent residents, and eligible visa holders welcome), Melbourne-based with a hybrid model of 3 days in-office
