Civil Engineering Technician - Construction Materials Testing
Materials Consultants is a proudly WA‐owned and operated independent construction material testing company. Operating for over 40 years, we provide NATA‐accredited testing services to the civil, infrastructure, and mining sectors across Western Australia – from Perth metro to remote regional sites.
The Opportunity
We're expanding our team and currently seeking experienced Construction Materials Testing Technicians for:
* Remote Annex Laboratories (regional WA)
* Perth Base Laboratory

Key Responsibilities
* Conduct field and laboratory testing of soils, aggregates, and concrete in accordance with MRWA and Australian Standards.
* Operate and maintain Nuclear Density Gauges and perform associated compaction control testing, checks and other requirements.
* Complete accurate reporting, documentation, and data entry in line with company quality systems.
* Work independently and collaboratively within team environments across multiple project sites.
* Supervise remote laboratories, ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and testing requirements.
* Train and mentor staff in testing procedures, safety practices, and quality expectations.
* Manage client relationships and represent the company professionally on project sites.
* Be available for overtime and remote project work, including weekends and FIFO as operationally required.
* Perform manual handling tasks such as digging, lifting, and using power tools.
* Operate vehicles and small machinery safely and in accordance with company procedures.
* Complete computing and reporting tasks required for daily operations and quality documentation.
* Perform routine equipment maintenance and checks to ensure all testing instruments remain in safe & reliable working condition.
* Maintain calibration records and ensure all equipment is used within its current calibration status.
About You
* Degree or Advanced Diploma in Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology or similar relevant tertiary qualification (required)
* Radiation Safety Portable Gauge Licence (required)
* C Class Driver's Licence (required)
* At least 2 years' experience in construction materials testing (required)
* Specific experience in testing soils, aggregates, and concrete is essential for this role
* Strong understanding of AS and MRWA test methods
* Reliable, honest, and self‐motivated (required)
* Previous NATA Signatory status (highly regarded)
* Sound computer and communication skills
* Must be an Australian Resident
* Ability and willingness to work FIFO rosters to remote sites as required by company and client operations (required)
