Offer description

The Role

As the dedicated Feedlot Manager, you will take full responsibility for the day‐to‐day supervision and efficient maintenance of this specialist feedlot operation, ensuring the highest standards are upheld.

This is a hands‐on leadership position that requires you to be actively involved in leading the team in daily operations on site.

A crucial component of this role is the end‐to‐end management of all commodities and logistics required for the business to operate seamlessly. A key part of your leadership involves managing and guiding a small team. You will be responsible for establishing clear work objectives, actively supporting their professional growth, and using a fair, logical approach to handle any challenges or workplace disagreements.

Critical technical responsibilities include performing and training subordinate staff in best‐practice cattle‐handling, health, and welfare procedures. Essential to success are not only the technical skills and experience listed above, but also a work ethic that involves diligent management and record‐keeping.

The Employer

Broad Water Downs Pty Ltd (Macquarie Downs Feedlot), a finalist in the 2024 ALFA Feedlot of the Year Awards, is a specialist small‐scale Wagyu feedlot with a strong reputation for excellence. The enterprise covers 6,900 hectares of high‐quality rangeland in the productive Darling Downs region of South East Queensland. The well‐equipped operation uses 900 hectares for both irrigated and dryland ration production. Wholly owned by Starzen, a major Japanese meat company, they take immense pride in their hard‐earned global reputation as a leading Japanese Wagyu brand.

They operate a specialist Wagyu feedlot, currently feeding 3,800 head, with approved capacity to expand to 4,900 SCU. Operating as a close‐knit collaborative business, the small team is composed mostly of young staff, all of whom uphold the core values of honesty and integrity. Notably, the feedlot's main business is custom feeding for close relation Wagyu breeders whilst also having their own cattle in the feedlot for developing their own Wagyu brand.

The Offer

Broad Water Downs is committed to offering the successful candidate an attractive, highly competitive remuneration package. The successful permanent, full‐time applicant will be provided a comfortable three‐bedroom house, a dedicated work utility vehicle (ute), a work phone, and a laptop to support their duties. Based at Macquarie Downs near Leyburn, QLD, offering excellent connectivity with a school bus service conveniently available at the front gate.

The Ideal Candidate

Broad Water Downs is actively seeking a motivated and capable up‐and‐coming leader who not only demonstrates the technical knowledge required but is also defined by their honesty, humbleness and has:

* Sufficient and demonstrable feedlot and livestock experience.
* A humble, honest nature with no ego, and a keenness for staff training.
* Strong communication skills for interacting with clients and team members.
* Experience in handling all commodities and managing logistics is essential.
* Demonstrated experience with livestock illnesses and cattle health procedures.
* Wagyu experience is advantageous but not essential.
