Aspen Legal is one of Australia's fastest-growing providers of commercial and corporate legal secondments, with a diverse blue-chip client base including ASX100 companies, multinationals, and higher education institutions. With annual turnover in excess of $10 million and ambitious plans to double in size within the next three years, Aspen Legal is entering an exciting new phase of growth. We are looking for a Finance Director who can help us build the financial discipline, systems and reporting needed to support that growth. This is a senior role, but it is not a purely strategic or advisory role. We are looking for someone who is commercially sharp, highly capable and willing to be close to the detail.
The Role
The Finance Director will lead Aspen Legal's finance function and play a central role in improving the firm's financial management, reporting, invoicing, cashflow, forecasting, systems and operating discipline.
The ideal candidate will be able to operate at two levels. At one level, they will provide clear financial insight to the Board and leadership team, helping Aspen Legal understand performance, profitability, growth opportunities, resourcing needs, and financial risk. At the other level, they will take direct responsibility for the practical operation of the finance function, including monthly invoicing, financial processes, management reporting, budgeting, cashflow management, controls and the improvement of finance systems and processes.
This role will suit someone who enjoys both commercial strategy and hands-on execution. We are a growing business, so the successful candidate will need to be comfortable building structure while also rolling up their sleeves and making sure the basics are done properly, consistently and on time.

Qualifications and Experience
* Chartered Accountant, CPA or equivalent finance qualification preferred.
* Significant experience in a senior finance role, ideally within legal, consulting, professional services or another people-based services business.
* Strong experience managing core finance processes, including invoicing, reporting, budgeting, forecasting and cashflow.
* Experience improving financial systems, reporting tools and business processes.
* Experience with Xero and related reporting or practice management systems will be highly regarded.
* Experience working with founders, directors, partners or senior executives in a growing private business will be highly regarded.

We are looking for someone who can bring financial discipline and commercial clarity to a growing business. This is not a narrow finance processing role, but nor is it a purely strategic CFO role removed from the day-to-day. The successful candidate will need to be strong enough to advise the Board, but practical enough to ensure invoicing is completed, cashflow is managed, reports are accurate, systems are improved and the finance function operates properly. In short, we are looking for a Finance Director who can help us professionalise the financial engine of the business while supporting Aspen Legal's next stage of growth.
