About the Role
We are seeking a Mine Geologist to join our team at the Commodore Coal Mine in Millmerran, QLD. Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, the Mine Geologist is responsible for coordinating and managing the day-to-day geological activities and supervision of contractors for the Commodore Mine and the Millmerran Power Station. This role is also to undertake co‐ordination of external projects requiring general project management while maintaining the highest standards of safety and environmental responsibility.
This role is a 7/7 roster and is based on‐site at the Commodore Coal Mine.
Key Responsibilities
* Assistance in managing the coal mining contractors to achieve Millmerran Power Station goals and objectives, specifically relating to coal quality.
* Participation and coaching as the geological subject matter expert in risk register reviews, risk assessments, and determining effective controls.
* Providing input into the planning & budgeting of exploration programs to define resource limits and coal quality variability.
* Assist in managing the geological function, including coal quality activities (exploration, modelling, mining, blending and Power Station feed).
* Actively contribute to mine planning activities to ensure that coal quality and logistical requirements are met for the operation. Compile weekly, monthly and quarterly coal production forecasts.
* Prepare regular monthly reconciliations of coal from pit to production stockpile including validation of the mine plan from the monthly reconciliations.
* Exploration drilling contractor supervision including Safety & Health Management compliance, performance monitoring and technical supervision.
* Maintenance of the geological, geotechnical and coal quality database covering all lease areas.
* Optimising coal quality at the Commodore Mine through geological data collection and imparting coal geology/quality understanding to planners and operators.
* Provide advice to operational staff in relation to the management of coal loss/dilution issues.
* Geological highwall mapping, in-pit and stockpile sampling.
* Oversee geotechnical monitoring: develop and maintain systems to communicate such information.
* Supporting development projects within the organisation as required, specifically environmental approvals.

Essential
* Tertiary qualifications in Geology / Geoscience
* Minimum 5 years' geologist experience, preferably practical experience in open‐cut coal mining environments working closely with engineers, surveyors, and supervisors
* Experience using a range of Geological software and GIS technology (i.e. Maptek Vulcan / Deswik)
* Knowledge of QLD Coal Mining Safety & Health Act & Regulations and the QLD Environmental Protection Act
* A solution‐based approach to dealing with operational mining challenges and ability to problem solve
* Contractor management experience or working with large service agreements is highly desirable, including monitoring performance and ensuring adherence to applicable standards and procedures.
