The Parks and Gardens Team works within the Horticultural Services Department to present our great green spaces for the enjoyment of the community.
About The Position
We are seeking a suitably experienced person to work in the broader Horticulture team as part of the Parks and Gardens team. You will be responsible for the upkeep of the council's beautiful parks, gardens and open spaces within the municipality.
Responsibilities
* Maintaining a range of parks and gardens using sound horticultural skills including turf and garden bed maintenance and weed management. Some minor irrigation maintenance, path maintenance, tree planting, water features and pest and disease control.
* Operation and maintenance of horticultural plant and equipment including vehicles, ride‐on mowers, tractors, small plant and pesticide spraying equipment.
* Working cooperatively with team members, stakeholders and contractors.
* Working to the highest levels of safety and presentation to improve the amenity for our community.
Qualifications
* Highly motivated, friendly and flexible approach.
* Certificate III in Horticulture (Parks and Gardens) or substantial relevant experience.
* Sound horticultural knowledge and skills including plant and weed identification.
* Experience in the use and basic maintenance of grass cutting plant and equipment, such as ride‐on mowers, hand mowers, brush cutters, hedgers and edgers.
* Commitment to occupational health and safety and quality control processes.
* Able to work to agreed targets within a team environment.
* Able to accurately record and report on daily work programmes.
* Good customer service and communication skills.
* AgVet certification with ACUP certification desirable.
* Traffic Management desirable.
* White Card desirable or must be willing to obtain.
* National Police Check and Working with Children's Check.
* Medium Rigid Truck license (manual) or must be willing to obtain within 3 months of employment.
