The Workforce Strategy and Planning Unit (WSPU) provides statewide leadership in cross‐sectoral health workforce strategy, policy and planning. It supports a sustainable, skilled, future‐ready workforce for Tasmania, delivers integrated workforce planning aligned with service and infrastructure planning, and leads monitoring of the Health Workforce Sustainability Strategy and Plan.
The Medical Workforce Policy and Strategy Unit (MWPSU) is a functional stream of the WSPU, providing leadership in medical workforce policy, strategy, education and training coordination, and medical staffing frameworks to support statewide consistency.
Role
This position coordinates the development and implementation of medical workforce strategy and policy initiatives that support sustainable workforce models and statewide consistency. It leads research and analysis to provide timely advice, recommendations, and solutions on complex workforce issues, project‐manages policy and strategy initiatives, monitors emerging risks and opportunities, and advises on impacts for service delivery and workforce sustainability.
Working closely with the Workforce Planning Team and a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, the role aligns policy with planning insights, fosters strategic collaboration, and prepares high‐level briefings, correspondence and policy documentation for senior leaders and government.
Qualifications and Experience
* Proven experience in strategic policy and/or workforce planning, with the ability to interpret and apply relevant legislative, regulatory and policy frameworks to develop sound, compliant advice.
* Strong strategic, conceptual and analytical skills, with the ability to produce high‐quality documentation and clear, compelling briefings for senior and diverse audiences.
* Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven ability to build productive relationships and effectively resolve complex issues with stakeholders.
Appointment Details
Permanent full‐time day worker, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible. Hours are to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
Salary
$111,754 to $126,579 per annum. Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount. Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2026.
