Position Title
Staff Specialist – Emergency Medicine (Permanent, part‐time or full‐time, up to 1.0FTE, commencing July2026).
About the Role
Serve as a qualified Emergency Medicine specialist within St Vincent's Hospital Emergency Department, providing specialist care to a diverse adult patient cohort, including trauma and mental health presentations. The role requires commitment to improving services for patients affected by homelessness, poverty, drug and alcohol issues, social isolation and mental health problems.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide specialist emergency medicine care to patients presenting to the Emergency Department.
* Improve service provision for patients affected by homelessness, drug & alcohol issues, social isolation and mental health problems.
* Consult, supervise and educate specialist trainees, junior medical staff, undergraduates and allied health staff.
* Contribute to the management and function of the Emergency Department, promoting safe, best‐practice and cost‐efficient clinical services.
* Work within a multidisciplinary team using excellent communication skills.
* Promote good patient care and the department's reputation.
* Participate in research activities.
* Provide weekend and out‐of‐hours duty as required.
Qualifications / Selection Criteria
* Specialist registration with AHPRA.
* Fellowship of the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (FACEM) or equivalent (achievable within two months).
* Demonstrated high standards of clinical practice in Emergency Medicine and Trauma commensurate with experience.
* Experience managing patients affected by homelessness, drug & alcohol issues, social isolation and mental health problems.
* Commitment to teaching at registrar, junior medical officer and undergraduate levels.
* Ability to provide high‐quality compassionate care and collaborate as a leader within a multidisciplinary team.
* Ongoing contribution to dissemination of new knowledge and practices within an academic teaching hospital environment.
* Ability to supervise trainee specialists in accordance with ACEM requirements.
