About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Defence Superintendent to join a shore‐based engineering team. This is a key technical role responsible for vessel maintenance management, asset reliability, and compliance across a complex fleet.
You will be responsible for the technical condition, maintenance performance, and operational readiness of assigned vessels. Acting as the key link between ship and shore, you will oversee Planned Maintenance Systems (PMS), coordinate repairs, manage defects, and ensure compliance with class and regulatory requirements.
This role focuses on ensuring vessels remain safe, operational, and cost‐effective through proactive maintenance management, contractor coordination, and technical problem‐solving.
Ideal for marine engineers, Chief Engineers, or ex‐Navy personnel transitioning ashore into a technical superintendent / marine asset management role.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage Planned Maintenance Systems (PMS), including AMPS, NS5, or Nautical Systems
* Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance across assigned vessels
* Coordinate breakdown response, defect resolution, and technical troubleshooting
* Manage vessel maintenance budgets, cost tracking, and invoice verification
* Coordinate contractors, vendors, spares, and shore‐based support services
* Monitor class surveys, inspections, and certification compliance
* Act as a technical escalation point for vessel engineering issues
* Conduct vessel inspections, condition assessments, and maintenance audits
* Support dry dock planning, repair specifications, and project execution
* Maintain accurate maintenance, defect, and compliance records across systems
* Drive reliability improvements, reduce recurring failures, and optimise maintenance strategies
* Ensure compliance with HSEQ, safety, and quality management systems
Skills & Experience Required
* Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Marine, Electrical, Aerospace or equivalent)
* Experience in marine engineering, ship operations, or technical maintenance roles
* Strong knowledge of Planned Maintenance Systems (PMS) – AMPS / NS5 / Nautical Systems
* Understanding of vessel systems, marine engineering, and class requirements
* Strong stakeholder management across the ship crew, contractors, and internal teams
* Excellent problem‐solving and decision‐making under operational pressure
* Budget management, cost control, and invoice verification experience
* Strong communication and technical reporting skills
* Proficient in Microsoft Office and maintenance/asset management systems
* Must be eligible or hold NV1 Defence Security Clearance
Desirable
* Ex‐Navy, Chief Engineer, or Defence maritime background
* Project management experience or qualification
* Experience in naval, defence, or commercial shipping environments
