Position
Local Laws Officer – City of Boroondara.
Salary: $91,334 - $98,476 per annum (plus Super) with penalty rates included.
About the Role
You will respond to reported breaches of the Amenity Local Law and the Environment Protection Act, using education, investigation and enforcement to achieve compliance. The role involves managing a varied caseload, gathering evidence, preparing clear records and working within established procedures to resolve matters fairly and effectively.
Key responsibilities include:
* Investigating issues such as illegal dumping, unsightly properties, over‐hanging vegetation, illegal advertising, and occupation of Council land.
* Providing courteous and timely service to community members.
* Supporting the Animal Management team with park patrols.
* Co‐operating with external stakeholders including Victoria Police, the Magistrates' Court and Council prosecutors.
* Working a 42‐hour week over a 16‐week roster with rotating weekend work every four weeks.
* Using a fully stocked vehicle as a tool of trade for duty performance and commute.
About You
We are looking for candidates who bring sound judgment, a strong customer focus and a collaborative approach. You will have experience delivering customer service in a complex regulatory workplace or a fast‐paced setting, with the ability to communicate clearly, build rapport and respond professionally under pressure.
Additional qualifications and experience valued:
* Methodical investigative skills, accurate information collection and clear note preparation.
* Knowledge of compliance, local laws or related legislation and the ability to interpret policy.
* Respectful negotiation, problem‐solving and de‐escalation skills.
* Ability to work across the community, walk for extended periods and assist with animal handling when required.
* Any qualification in enforcement, local laws, justice or a related field is desirable but not essential.
