At SLR we Make Sustainability Happen. SLR is an international environmental consultancy with a globally recognised reputation for providing high‐quality tailored services. With 1,000+ staff in APAC alone, we advise clients on strategic and site‐specific environmental matters. Our Ecology & Biodiversity team in North Queensland (Townsville or Cairns) is looking for an Associate Ecologist to work on projects across QLD and Australia, leading fieldwork, data analysis and report writing while mentoring junior staff.
Responsibilities
* Provide high‐quality service and advice to clients and colleagues, both in office and field.
* Participate in field survey programs to collect ecological data.
* Interpret and apply environmental legislation to projects across multiple sectors.
* Develop technical reports detailing survey outcomes, implications for environmental impact assessment and management.
* Manage projects, including invoicing and budget tracking.
* Assist in preparing tenders and proposals.
* Build and maintain a strong network of key clients to contribute to the North QLD pipeline.
* Mentor junior staff and lead field trips.
* Integrate technical work into multidisciplinary assessments and project teams.
* Conduct independent studies, analyses, interpretations, conclusions and decisions; prepare reports outlining findings.
* Travel to remote areas, including interstate, for field survey programs.
Skills and Experience
* Appropriate tertiary qualification in Science, Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Natural Resources or a related field.
* 6+ years' experience in an ecological role within environmental consulting or an equivalent government position, including ecological surveys and report production.
* Experience designing and implementing flora and fauna field surveys and monitoring programs.
* Excellent flora and fauna identification skills.
* Mature report‐writing and computer skills, with a demonstrable record of producing high‐quality written material for publication.
* Proven ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks.
* Project‐management experience in client management and budget control.
