About The Role
Albury Wodonga Health's Mental Health Service provides specialist clinical assessment, treatment and ongoing care to people who have or are at risk of a serious mental illness or suicide. Across a range of disciplines they support people of all ages including those with co‐occurring substance use problems. Person‐centred care is provided through a recovery‐focused model for both urgent and non‐urgent cases.
Responsibilities
* Provide direct clinical services within an acute inpatient setting, departments and units within the health service, residential and/or sub‐acute bed‐based settings, or in a community setting.
* Work as a team member within units, across the Mental Health and Wellbeing Service and in support of other hospital units, particularly the Emergency Department.
* Deliver person‐centred, trauma‐informed, gender‐sensitive and culturally informed care to all consumers.
* Provide effective clinical/medical supervision and treatment to consumers under care.
* Comply with the Mental Health Act, National Standards for Mental Health Services and ACHS EQuIP Standards.
* Participate actively in local teaching, training and supervision sessions.
* Commit to further education and professional development, including attendance at recognised training programmes and contributing to local psychiatry educational activities.
* Achieve high standards of care by participating in quality activities and accreditation work groups.
* Participate in on‐call/out‐of‐hours on‐duty rosters as required.
* Take comprehensive histories and perform comprehensive mental and physical examinations on a range of consumers.
* Obtain corroborative histories from families, previous treatment providers and other sources; discuss assessment and management issues with families.
* Construct suitable diagnostic formulations and management plans.
* Record clinical information accurately and prepare comprehensive discharge summaries for consumers transferred to other wards or discharged to the community.
* Present and discuss cases with supervisors.
* Participate in education programmes for others, e.g., staff development, community and lay groups, medical students.
* Report through the Director and Senior Staff on the assessment, investigation, treatment and review of consumers admitted for acute management.
* Ensure consumers and families receive adequate information about management decisions and follow‐up plans.

Unaccredited Psychiatry Registrars commencing July/August 2026.
