Senior Contaminated Land Environmental Engineer/Scientist

Ewers Environmental Consulting (EEC) is seeking an ambitious and driven Team Leader – Contaminated Land to join our growing Victorian team, supporting projects across VIC, SA, NSW and TAS. This is a leadership role within our Contaminated Land division, responsible for overseeing daily operations, project workflows, staff coordination and resource management. You will play a pivotal role in delivering complex environmental projects, ensuring regulatory compliance, maintaining technical excellence and maximising team efficiency. The position offers a hybrid work arrangement, combining fieldwork, office collaboration (Melbourne & Geelong) and work‐from‐home flexibility.

Key Responsibilities

* Oversee daily operations of the Contaminated Land team
* Manage project scheduling, resourcing and workflow coordination
* Mentor and train junior and mid‐level consultants
* Support strategic growth initiatives across Victoria and interstate
* Collaborate closely with site staff and senior leadership
* Provide field support where required: soil sampling, groundwater monitoring, supervision of drilling programs and groundwater well installations
* Work across multiple sites throughout Melbourne and regional Victoria (with potential interstate work)
* Ensure high standards of safety, data integrity and regulatory compliance
* Prepare and review detailed technical reports: Preliminary Site Investigations (PSI), Detailed Site Investigations (DSI – soil, groundwater, soil vapour), Groundwater Annual Monitoring Reports (including Mann‐Kendall analysis), Groundwater Quality Management Plans (GWQMP), DSI reports for EPA audit sites, Soil Classification Reports, Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMP), PFAS assessments
* Deliver projects on time and within budget
* Conduct environmental assessments and support environmental audits
* Provide technical advice to clients regarding compliance and sustainability
* Develop and implement environmental management strategies
* Assist with preparation of tenders and proposals
* Manage subcontractor and supplier selection and performance
* Stay up to date with environmental legislation, industry standards and best practice
* Maintain a strong focus on quality and exceeding client expectations

About You

* A highly capable Environmental Scientist or Engineer with strong contaminated land experience and emerging or established leadership capability.
* Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Science or Environmental Engineering.
* Minimum 6+ years of experience in soil sampling, groundwater monitoring and drilling supervision.
* Minimum 6+ years of project management experience within environmental consulting.
* Proven experience delivering projects for public and private sector clients (e.g., Council, Government, Road, Rail, Development, Industrial, Aviation, Manufacturing).
* Strong technical report writing experience across PSI, DSI, GWQMP, RAP, CEMP, Soil Classification, and PFAS.
* Experience compiling groundwater trend analysis including Mann‐Kendall.
* Proficiency with MS Office, GIS, ESDAT, PIPERPLOT and groundwater logger analysis (depth, pH, EC).
* Strong knowledge of local and national environmental regulations.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work autonomously and within a team.
* Full Australian driver's licence with an excellent driving record.
* Own reliable vehicle.
* Australian citizenship or permanent residency.
