About the Position
The role of the Youth Mentor is to work alongside the Youth, Family & Community Services Manager to provide a high level of support to young people in the Community by liaising with teachers, group leaders and elders to identify the issues they may be facing.

About Indigenous Youth Connection to Culture – IYCC
Bundiyarra's Indigenous Youth Connection to Culture (IYCC) Program helps young Aboriginal people, aged 10-25, connect with culture and community, through seven activities from painting, family connections, language, storytelling, camps, and guidance from Elders and facilitators about struggles in life's journey. It provides a safe space to learn from Elders, take part in cultural activities, build pride in who they are, and develop a sense of belonging. The program supports confidence, wellbeing, and positive pathways for the future.
Key Responsibilities
Support the Youth, Family & Community Services Manager to provide a high level of support to young people in the Community.
Become familiar with the types of issues faced by young people in the local Community.
Be familiar with the activities and how projects are to be completed.
Conduct initial assessments with young people and evaluate their needs.
Assess clients progress and record statistics in relation to activities and behaviours observed throughout time in the program.
Refer clients to relevant support organisations and agencies.
Liaise with teachers, group leaders and elders in relation to individual youth and groups and any issues they may be facing.
Setting up and running activity sessions already established through the program.
Communicate directly with the Youth, Family and Community Services Manager in relation to any issues which may occur during activity sessions.
Initiate conversations with youth around what issues they are facing and give ideas as to ways that may be able to assist them in a practical, non-violent and safe manner.
Report all external collaboration to the Youth, Family and Community Services Manager.
Agree to abide by relevant professional ethics and client confidentiality.
Maintain and update data files and record daily activities of the social, emotional and physical wellbeing of services the youth have accessed.
To positively and actively promote the IYCC program.
Adhere to BACAC policies and procedures.
Undertake other duties as assigned by the Youth, Family & Community Services Manager.

Selection Criteria Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience
Demonstrated experience working with Youth.
Demonstrated ability to work with and communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
A commitment to excellence in customer service, to ensure consistent provision of service to internal and external stakeholders.
Good computer skills and proficient in Microsoft Office.

You must meet any other conditions required from time to time by Bundiyarra's funding provider(s) relevant to the performance of your duties.
Performance Goals and Monitoring
All Bundiyarra employees participate in regular Line Management Meetings with the aim of monitoring performance, providing support, and fostering continuous improvement.
All Bundiyarra employees will undertake appraisal processes after a 3-month probation period and then on an annual basis – appraisals are conducted by the relevant Line Manager.
All Bundiyarra programs are required to submit monthly Board Reports and Funding Reports in accordance with service agreement requirements to ensure targeted progress toward KPIs is attained.
