The Role

The Settlement Youth Worker equips and empowers young migrants and refugees from new and emerging communities (and their families, where appropriate) to meet their settlement needs, thereby improving social participation, economic wellbeing, independence, personal wellbeing and community connectedness. The role supports MiCare's Migrant Services Team and actively engages youth in MiCare programs and partner organisations.

Key Result Areas
* Young migrant and refugee engagement: support participation in MiCare programmes that address settlement needs.
* Program design, delivery and coordination: co‐design, implement and facilitate youth‐focused activities that enhance social participation, economic wellbeing and community connectedness.
* Case work and client support: deliver casework services to young people and their families as required.
* Partnerships and community development: build relationships with community organisations to expand engagement opportunities.
* Compliance and safeguarding: ensure delivery meets MiCare's child safety, safeguarding and OH&S standards.
* Reporting, evaluation and continuous improvement: maintain accurate attendance records, contribute to monitoring and evaluation, and support outcome reporting.
Qualifications
* Appropriate tertiary diploma or certificate in Community Services, Case Management, Youth Work or equivalent experience.
Experience
* Commitment to the needs of newly arrived migrant and refugee youth and their families, especially from emerging communities.
* Understanding of systemic and structural barriers faced by these communities and strategies to overcome them in areas of economic, social and civic participation.
* Knowledge of settlement service policies, referral protocols, and specialist experience in youth services or a related field.
* Basic familiarity with Commonwealth and State policies related to immigration, settlement, income support, Child Safe Standards, MARAM Framework, Information Sharing Schemes and other relevant social policies, and ability to adapt to changing policy and program needs.
Essential Skills
* Experience working with young people and families from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
* Ability to build trusting relationships with youth from refugee and culturally diverse backgrounds.
* Knowledge of youth referral networks and community resources.
* Competence in delivering high‐quality casework services and advocating for better outcomes.
* Experience designing innovative community development initiatives that engage youth in music, sports, arts, and other cultural or skill‐development programs.
* Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills, focusing on building trust and positive connections with community members.
* Strong administrative and organisational skills, including participant registration, record‐keeping and community coordination.
* Capability to guide and support students, volunteers and project workers.
* Experience in grant management, reporting and project documentation, including data collection and evaluation.
* Ability to work in a culturally sensitive and trauma‐informed manner in an ethno‐specific environment.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and online communication platforms.

Eligibility and Preconditions
