Overview
School Learning Support Officers provide support for students with diverse learning needs, including disability, in classrooms and other learning environments under the direction of a teacher. Duties include student welfare, health and wellbeing activities, and specific support in pre‐school, vision, hearing, and bilingual streams.
Responsibilities
Support student learning and wellbeing in collaboration with teaching staff; build strong relationships; promote high expectations; maintain a trauma‐informed, inclusive environment; provide specific support within designated learning streams; administer medications and health support under training; promote literacy, numeracy, independent living skills, assistive technology, and communication; assist with therapeutic support and transition planning.
Essential Requirements
* Working with Children Check clearance.
* Completion of mandatory Department of Education training and willingness to undertake first‐aid training relevant to the role.
* Medications administration training provisioned based on student needs.
* Health support training provisioned based on student needs.
Selection Criteria
* Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team.
* Ability to work with students who have emotional, physical or intellectual disabilities.
* Awareness of the needs of students with emotional, physical or intellectual disabilities.
* Effective communication skills.
