Offer description

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Construction Estimator to join our team and play a key role in delivering accurate and efficient cost estimates for residential construction projects in our Developments division. Reporting to the Scheduling & Estimating Manager, this role involves preparing estimates across all project stages—from initial sales quotes through to final accounts. If you're passionate about construction, thrive in a collaborative environment, and have an eye for detail, we want to hear from you.

A Construction Estimator is responsible for assessing the cost and scope of residential building projects to support both bidding and project planning. In this role, you will review plans and specifications, evaluate materials, labour, and equipment, and prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for new home builds. You will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure pricing is correct and that each project remains financially viable and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

* Examine and analyse architectural drawings, specifications, and other documentation to prepare detailed cost estimates.
* Collaborate with architects, project managers, and engineers to understand project requirements.
* Conduct risk assessments and identify potential cost-saving opportunities.
* Maintain a database of construction costs, materials, and labour rates.
* Present and negotiate cost estimates with clients and stakeholders.
* Monitor the ongoing project costs to ensure budget accuracy and compliance.

Key Tasks

* Prepare and submit tenders for construction projects.
* Calculate quantity take-offs of materials.
* Liaise with subcontractors and suppliers for quotes.
* Revise estimates as necessary following changes in project scope.
* Track estimated vs actual project costs.

Qualifications

A formal education background in construction management, quantity surveying, civil engineering, or a related field. Certifications from recognised institutions, such as the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) or the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), are highly valued. A solid understanding of building codes, construction methods, and contract law is also essential.

Proficient in estimation software such as Databuild.

Strong analytical and numerical skills.

Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.

Detail-oriented approach to examining plans and specifications.

Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.

Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
