The Position
Reporting to the Supervisor Refractory, successful applicants will be responsible for carrying out refractory installation, maintenance, demolition and associated civil works across multiple fixed plant assets in a heavy industrial environment. This role requires flexibility to work both day and night shift rosters, including shutdowns, breakdown maintenance and project work.
Key Responsibilities:
* Refractory bricklaying and furnace lining installation
* Partial and full relines of furnaces, converters, launders and process vessels
* Installation and repair of refractory castables
* Cold gunning and hot gunning operations
* Ramming works and refractory patching
* Acid proof brick and lining installation
* Refractory demolition using hand tools and mechanical equipment
* Brokk robotic demolition operation
* Reading and interpreting refractory drawings and installation procedures
* Working safely within confined spaces, hot work environments and shutdown conditions
* General labouring and all aspects of civil construction associated with refractory maintenance activities
* Maintaining high housekeeping and safety standards across all work areas
Skills & Experience
To be successful in this role you will possess:
* Trade qualification in Bricklaying/Refractory or demonstrated refractory industry experience
* Experience working within smelters, mineral processing plants, refineries, steelworks or heavy industry environments
* Experience in refractory installation, demolition and maintenance
Experience with:
* Castables
* Gunning processes
* Ramming applications
* Acid proof lining systems
* Furnace and vessel relines
* Brokk operating experience highly regarded
* Ability to interpret refractory drawings and technical specifications
* Strong commitment to safety and hazard awareness
* Ability to work effectively within shutdown and maintenance teams
* Physically fit and capable of manual work in demanding environments
* Willingness to work rotating day and night shift rosters
