Salary: Level 3, $141,551 - $154,896 per annum (pro-rata) (SEA GA 2023)

Commencement date may be negotiated with the successful applicant, with the role to be taken up no later than the start of the 2027 school year.

The Role

The School of Isolated and Distance Education (SIDE) is seeking a curriculum leader to fill the position of Head of Learning Area (HOLA) English. The successful applicant should be a collaborative, people-focused and improvement-driven curriculum leader, who supports active engagement and learning for all students through a blended learning approach.

To be suitable for this role, you will ideally lead staff in the effective implementation of the WA English Curriculum and Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) courses across the learning area. The successful applicant will be required to take on an appropriate teaching load.

SIDE serves diverse student cohorts with unique contexts and needs; as such the HOLA – English requires the ability to design and implement relational, responsive learning opportunities that strengthen student wellbeing, engagement and learning outcomes. You will ideally be a collaborative problem solver and have highly effective communication skills. As a member of the SIDE leadership team you will value and lead truth-telling, reconciliation and equity for all students.

As a highly performing instructional and curriculum leader, you will ideally display the ability to foster continual improvement in staff performance in response to student cohort data and lead your diverse team to enact the strategic directions of the school. You should be able to identify the necessary strategies to support improvements in student learning and achievement across complex contexts. The ability to build partnerships and engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders across a range of contexts will be highly regarded in this role.

Work Locations and Travel

All teaching staff and members of the Leadership team are expected to participate in our regional travel program to meet the needs of students and partner schools. Visits are planned in negotiation with staff, and at times may include short-term stays in regional and remote locations.

SIDE has a main campus in Leederville and teaching facilities at Canning College, Clarkson Community High School, Northlake Senior Campus and Eaton Community College. By negotiation, you may be placed across any of these or future venues.

o Demonstrated capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings.
o High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes.
o Demonstrated professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g., Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
o Demonstrated capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.
