**About the role**
Working directly with the Mayor and Deputy Mayor, this role will be responsible for facilitating good communication between the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and the City. This role focuses on providing strategic advice, support and guidance to the Mayor and Deputy Mayor across a range of civic and governance matters to ensure that they can effectively fulfil their civic duties. It is expected to possess and display strong leadership skills and stakeholder management to support the Manager of Mayor & Councillor Support, Mayor and Councillors.
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide professional support and concise information to the Mayor whilst exercising the utmost discretion and maintaining confidentiality where appropriate.
- Research a range of issues, develop recommendations and prepare presentations for the Mayor & Deputy Mayor as required.
- Ensure a seamless experience for the Mayor in the performance of their responsibilities by effectively co-ordinating all Mayoral activities, information flows and decision-making.
- Anticipate the needs of the Mayor and provide tactical and strategic advice on emerging issues, areas of risk and opportunities for improvement.
- Work closely with the Corporate Affairs Team to ensure the appropriate, accurate and timely development of public material for the Mayor such as speeches, letters and media releases.
- Provide secondary leadership to the Mayor & Councillor Support Team to assist the Manager MCSU in delivering corporate responsibilities.
- Accompany and attend mayoral and civic functions, events and presentations; and provide all relevant background and preparatory information for activities when required
**About you**
- Experience in a local government environment delivering administrative and Council support function.
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills and ability to obtain cooperation from management, staff, and stakeholders.
- Experience in providing quality assurance for a range of formal communications including correspondence, briefings, speeches, media releases, submissions, and reports.
- Competent with Microsoft suite of products in particular Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Proven experience with budgeting.
- Knowledge of local government and relevant legislation and regulations would be advantageous.
- Relevant Tertiary qualifications.
