Koori Preschool Assistant, Wanniassa School Full-Time and Part-Time Temporary with a Possibility of Permanency
Wanniassa School is seeking a proactive and caring Koori Preschool Assistant to work in our Koori Preschool Program.
Wanniassa School is a small preschool to year 10 school with two campuses. We are a diverse and welcoming community. Our staff work together to support every student to learn, grow and succeed.
Our preschool also operates as a Koori Preschool and provides a free, play‐based early learning program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children aged from birth to five years. The program supports children's early learning, wellbeing, cultural identity and helps them build connections to culture and community.
As a Koori Preschool Assistant, you will work closely with educators and school communities to support children's learning and include cultural knowledge in everyday preschool activities. You will help create a safe, caring and engaging play-based learning environment. You will also support classroom activities, assist with simple admin tasks, and build strong partnerships with families.
The Koori Preschool runs 5 days per fortnight (9:15 am – 3:15 pm), currently Thursday and Friday one week and Wednesday, Thursday and Friday the following week. It is important to note the days and hours required must match the Koori Preschool operational need.

About the role:
As a Koori Preschool Assistant, you will:
* Support in the planning, development and implementation of educational programs
* Promote understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and perspectives within school communities
* Build positive relationships with students, families and community with parents/carers to support engagement in student learning, including involvement in educational decisions and transition processes.
* Support student wellbeing, including physical, emotional and personal hygiene care for students including students with additional needs where required.
* Help maintain safe, inclusive and culturally respectful learning spaces.

* Relevant qualifications such as Certificate III in Education Support (or working towards one) or an equivalent qualification.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skillsand the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
* A caring, student‐centred approach, with a genuine interest in supporting children and young people in their learning.
* Effective teamwork and reliability, with good organisational and time‐management skills.
* An approachable personality and a professional attitude in a school environment.
Eligibility requirements:
* This is an Identified position for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
* A Certificate III in Education Support (or working towards one), or an equivalent qualification.
* A valid ACT Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) registration (or eligibility to apply)
* Australian citizenship, permanent residency or a valid working visa.
* A written application (maximum 3 pages) addressing the selection questions for learning support roles. Refer to the Applicant Pack for details.
* Your resume/CV detailing your experience and qualifications.
* A certified copy of your ACT WWVP registration(or proof of recent application)
* A copy of your Certificate III in Education Support or evidence of your enrolment in the course.
