Parkville Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (PYMHWS) is Victoria's newest public mental health service dedicated to the care of young people aged 12 to 25 experiencing complex mental health challenges. We exist to walk alongside young people, their families, carers, supporters and kin, delivering care that is accessible, inclusive, developmentally appropriate, evidence‐informed, and grounded in lived experience.

The Opportunity
We are seeking a newly qualified Registered Nurse to join our Graduate Mental Health Nurse Program. The 24‐month program offers structured clinical supervision, professional development, hands‐on practice, and leads to enrolment in the postgraduate mental health nursing diploma. Participants will work in the acute inpatient unit and be supported by a collaborative multidisciplinary team.

About the Role
The Graduate Mental Health Nurse position offers a 24‐month supported pathway for new Registered Nurses to specialise in youth mental health nursing. For the first twelve months you will complete a structured course that includes clinical supervision, professional development and hands‐on practice, before commencing a postgraduate mental health nursing diploma. You will be based in the acute inpatient unit and have an opportunity to rotate into a community team in the second year, working as an integral member of a multidisciplinary team.
This position is only available to candidates eligible to apply to the 2026 Graduate Nursing Midwifery Program via The Postgraduate Medical Council of Victoria (PMCV).
Application Requirements
* 2 clinical appraisals – one ideally from mental health (both formative and summative assessments)
* A copy of your most up‐to‐date academic transcript including grading key
* Successful applicants must provide a satisfactory Criminal History Record Check, Working With Children Check, and evidence of an immunisation assessment prior to commencement
What You'll Do
* Deliver safe, recovery‐oriented, person‐centred care to young people in the acute inpatient unit
* Apply and consolidate advanced mental health nursing knowledge and clinical skills in daily practice
* Participate in the 24‐month Graduate Mental Health Nurse Program, including structured learning, clinical supervision, and professional development
* Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including clinicians and lived‐experience workforce, to plan and implement care
* Contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives and best‐practice mental health care
* Support young people and their families, carers, and kin in understanding and participating in care decisions
About You
* Motivated and compassionate newly registered nurse eager to transition into specialist youth mental health nursing and develop advanced clinical skills
* Strong clinical and recovery‐focused skills with ability to apply learning in the acute inpatient unit
* Excellent teamwork, communication and collaboration skills within a multidisciplinary environment
* Commitment to continuous learning, reflective practice, and professional development through the Transition to Specialty Practice Program
* Dedication to improving youth mental health services and delivering person‐centred, recovery‐oriented care to young people and their families
* Eligible to apply to the 2026 Graduate Nursing Midwifery Program via PMCV
