Food and Beverage Accelerator Program: Based in the School of Chemical Engineering, full‐time (100%), fixed‐term position until June2027. Base salary in the range $83,698.92–$111,431.10 plus 17% super (Academic LevelA). Visa sponsorship is not available. Based at our StLucia Campus.
About This Opportunity
This role focuses on the extraction and purification of valuable co‐products from seaweed for an industry‐supported project under Australia's Food and Beverage Accelerator. You will conduct research on seaweed extracts, perform physical characterisation and chemical analysis, support industry translation, collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, oversee Honours students, and contribute to teaching and service activities.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct research on seaweed extracts, including extraction, characterisation, and evaluation of applications.
* Produce research outputs such as technical reports to industry and publications.
* Support research translation and development with industry partners.
* Provide supervision and support for Honours students and researcher development.
* Collaborate with research support staff and manage conflicts in line with university policies.
* Demonstrate UQ values in citizenship, service, and external partnerships.
* Participate in teaching and deliver high‐quality student outcomes.
Qualifications
* Completion or near completion of a PhD in chemical engineering, chemistry, food science, or a related discipline.
* Experience in processing/engineering for extraction, purification, and stabilisation of food or plant extracts.
* Knowledge of protein, carbohydrate and/or lipid chemistry and characterisation of food ingredients.
* Experience in surface science, rheology, UV‐vis spectroscopy, or similar analytical methods.
* Evidence of published work in refereed journals and presentations at conferences.
* Demonstrated ability to work within interdisciplinary teams and contribute to external research funding.
