The opportunity
We are seeking a Media Advisor to play a critical role in amplifying CSIRO's science and impact through earned and owned media.
As the Media Advisor, you will manage CSIRO's Media Centre and triage incoming media requests, identify storytelling opportunities, devise and deliver PR/media strategies, nurture strategic media relationships, pitch stories and assist in effective issues management.
Success requires a strong news sense, flair for storytelling, use of visuals, and understanding of how social and digital media intersect.
High-level duties
* Act as the central liaison point for media outlets, including out-of-hours phone and email and schedule the weekend/public holiday roster.
* Upload media releases to CSIRO's website, distribute releases through Isentia and news wires, and advise on uploading.
* Work with Communications and stakeholders to identify story opportunities, develop and execute multi-platform media campaigns that harness the news cycle.
* Support peers across research units with pitching stories to achieve best outcomes.
* Identify storytelling opportunities; write and provide input into media releases, owned articles, social and digital media, videos and other content.
Role particulars
Location: Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne or Canberra preferred; other locations negotiable.
Salary: AU$100k – AU$113k pa + 15.4% superannuation.
Tenure: Indefinite, Full‐time.

As the successful candidate, you will bring
* Relevant tertiary qualification in journalism, communication or public relations, or equivalent experience.
* Demonstrated experience devising and delivering PR/integrated communication campaigns that achieve objectives with target audiences.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including pitching to media, writing releases, sub‐editing, and editing for diverse audiences.
* Experience in public relations and integrated digital and social media skill set, stakeholder management.
* Strong digital skills, including publishing to websites through a CMS, and willingness to learn new platforms.
* Experience using data‐driven insights to inform communications strategy.
* Understanding of the media and stakeholder environment, issues management, and strong news sense.
* Ability to work in a fast‐paced environment and meet tight deadlines.
